Meet Jennifer Chiu

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Chiu.

Jennifer, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve always had a passion for food all around Atlanta and other states. I was surrounded by other foodies in 2016 but I didn’t have my page at that time. In 2018, one of my closest friends (@imhungwey) started her food page and I was amazed by her passion and love for food. At the beginning of 2019, I went through a rough time and I was debating on starting a food page so I could have something to do as a hobby. I started to text some of my close friends if they would support me if I were to start one and they said: “of course.” With the support that I got from my friends, it motivated me to start one so I started @chewfoodnow in February of 2019. Happy almost one year to @chewfoodnow! When I first started the page, I did not know what to expect. I thought it would be something for me to do on the weekends to keep myself productive but as time flew by, I’ve met a lot of amazing foodies along the way. Before I started this page, I didn’t know that the Atlanta foodie community was so big. I’m grateful to call the #atlantafoodies my friends and it’s always a blast with them whenever we get to hangout. I used to be an introvert but thanks to the Atlanta foodie community, I’ve become more extroverted and stepping out of my comfort zone.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
In the beginning, it wasn’t a smooth road. I did not what to expect and how challenging it can be. The number one struggle that I am still going through is overthinking. When I first started the page, I would always be so scared to take pictures of the food because I would be scared of people judging me. At one point, I was thinking to myself and said who cares what people think. As long as this hobby makes me happy, that’s all that matters. As months flew by, I’ve overcome the overthinking and everything is going well.

Please tell us about your work.
I am a foodie that is based in Atlanta, GA. I always want to try new restaurants in Atlanta & post it up for the Atlanta community to know about it so they can try the restaurant as well. Since I live in the south of Atlanta, it’s harder for me to drive to downtown or even up north for any grand openings. My love for food is huge but I am more of a dessert person, especially boba. My love for boba is out of this world, especially for Ding Tea. My friends would say that I have a problem but I’m in denial about it. It’s so bad to say this but I would have at least 3-4 boba a week. The one thing that sets me apart from others would probably be my pun game. Every post that I post up, I would start it off with a pun and then I would go ahead and explain about the restaurant and the dish.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I were to start over, I would change my IG handle. When I was creating my page, I had two names in mind. The names were going to be “chiufoodnow” or “chewfoodnow”. I wanted to go with “chiufoodnow” because Chiu is my last name and it’s pronounced as chew. I’ve had people pronounce it wrong so I decided to go with “chewfoodnow”. Other than that, I wouldn’t change anything. I’ve learned that everything happens for a reason so, with this journey, I’ve met foodies that I can call my friends. I know that things are meant to be this way so I am so grateful & thankful for the support that I’ve received from everything.
