Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Bunch.
Amber, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I grew up in College Park before moving to Stone Mountain for high school. Growing up in Georgia, I can say there was definitely a difference between the south side of town and the east side of town. I got to experience both and as a result, both poured into me! When I was a kid, it was always just my Mom, my siblings and I. She taught us to be independent in the world and to depend on each other. My mother stressed education and service, and, because of that, I always had my nose in a book! I wanted to learn and understand how things worked AND why they worked the way they do. Because of that, I gravitated towards careers that allowed me to be of service to others.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has been anything but smooth! I remember telling a guidance counselor that I wanted to go to law school. Her advice was to find a more “sensible” job because it would be hard to have such a demanding job and a family. I made pretty good grades! Prior to law school, I was a flight attendant. I started with Airtran before moving on to Delta. I had only been on a plane once. I believe the year I was hired, Delta offered positions to 1% of those that applied. When I started my firm and left my very comfortable salaried position, I had several men tell me to my face that I was going to fail. It has been HARD, but I have learned to bet on me. Sometimes people won’t understand your vision. That’s okay! I am my own biggest cheerleader (next to my amazing husband).
My experience has been that as a woman, especially as a woman of color, sometimes people just don’t get it. They just won’t “get YOU”. My advice to any woman thinking of taking any leap is to just take a step. You have everything you need to be great at whatever your passion is. Read, study, leap. Fall. Make mistakes, Then get up and do it all over again, but always believe in YOU!
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Bunch Legal Group, P.C. and High Heel Hustler – what should we know?
My law firm, Bunch Legal Group, P.C. is an all-female personal injury firm in Union City, Georgia. We represent men AND women who have been injured in automobile, motorcycle, and trucking accidents. We are passionate about hiring women (and men) and providing an atmosphere where people feel safe and can grow while being active parents, aunts, uncles, and grandparents. My staff knows they can leave to pick up the kids, catch recitals and games, and do what they need to do without feeling like they are going to be penalized. Being a parent, wife, child doesn’t stop when you get to work. It’s a part of who they/we are!
My other passion is my brand, High Heel Hustler! Those early experiences and the stumbles that came along with them showed me that there was a need for a safe space for women to try and help each other on the road to entrepreneurship. The struggles are just different for women so we want to mentor, provide advice, and provide direction to them so that we don’t have to choose.
Which women have inspired you in your life?
My Mom and sister have been my BIGGEST inspirations. My Mom is an example in making it work! She is the person I go to when I want to give up because I KNOW she won’t let me. She’s not a quitter. My sister is an amazing realtor, Mom, and wife. She understands people! She is the person I can always count on to tell me the truth, even when it’s unpopular. In the legal and business world, I am inspired by women who have kicked down the doors in life! Justice Leah Ward Sears is at the top of my list. I also admire and follow Lori Harder who is a self-professed happiness guru and Tracee Ellis Ross which is my best friend in my head!
