Today we’d like to introduce you to Karyn Mullins.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started in technology marketing many years ago. I worked for a small company based out of Boston that was one of the first ISPs in New England. We had a great time selling internet access and it was a great learning experience for me. From there, I moved to Atlanta and worked for a company called Internet Security Systems. It was a fast-growing company that afforded me lots of opportunity for growth. We had a great team and I was blessed to play many different roles in both marketing and IT. I left ISS and went to another company in the security space. I was recruited to Jackson Healthcare, the parent company of Healthcare Staffing Technologies, over 11 years ago by someone I had worked with at ISS. I started managing an inhouse marketing agency at Jackson and continued to grow until I became the General Manager of Healthcare Staffing Technologies. I have been very fortunate in my career to work for great companies who invest in their associates and allow for growth.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I don’t think a career path is ever 100% smooth. I have worked for startup companies that made it big as well as ones that failed. I have gotten promotions that I wanted and been passed over for promotions I wanted. I think you have to use the struggles as learning opportunities to get what you can from the experience. In going to work for a startup that failed, I learned about the importance of the company culture. Working with like-minded people who all have the same goals and values is very powerful. Even that doesn’t guarantee success, though, so I learned to pick myself back up and keep on going when things didn’t work out the way I wanted them to.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Healthcare Staffing Technologies – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Healthcare Staffing Technologies is a Jackson Healthcare Company. We manage niche career websites. We are currently in the medical sales space with a site called MedReps.com and in the sports industry with JobsinSports.com. Our mission is to improve the lives of everyone we touch by connecting candidates and employers in a mutually beneficial way. We focus on having the highest quality and highest quantity of jobs and supplement that with key information our candidates need to be successful in their niche.
I think I am most proud of the fact that we help candidates find their dream jobs. We help people feed their families, grow their careers and live out their passions. We are small group of associates dedicated to improving the lives of all of our customers. I am also proud of our team – we have a great team of associates who work hard and want to make a difference.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We are always looking at ways to improve our effectiveness for our customers. We will focus on how we can continue to morph our business into an even more valuable resource. As the world of job searching changes, we will change with it and offer the solutions that best fit our audience.
