Today we’d like to introduce you to Shatara “TyTalks” Clark.
Shatara, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Well, about four years ago, right around my impending 30th birthday, I felt this need to readjust my life. After divorce at 28, I was in a place of a ton of confusion. I didn’t know me because I had spent most of my 20’s either preparing to be a wife or being a wife and now here I was alone. From there, I took to reading blogs and Christian books trying to understand life, why this happened to me and such. So after reading several blog post, I started to understand the freedom they must have felt in it all so I started a blog titled “Tywoo Talks.” My nickname Tywoo was given to me by my father and I felt like it was time to “talk” because silence had become too loud (which later became my theme).
The blog grew as the topics were easy to relate to from relationships to self love, and so on Tywoo Talks was becoming a household name, and I was glad to be able to empty myself while helping others. From there I joined a Bible study at my church and studied the word of God on the regular. I became bold in my study and what I learned and at the suggestion of someone, I begin a small group called Quiet Strength. Quiet Strength met once a week in the summer of 2017 but carried on into the fall and the spring of the following year. I am proud to say that Quiet Strength is still meeting and going strong, and I know God is proud. Several is the ladies who have interviews for for your amazing site are a part of Quiet Strength and we are so proud of them. Since Tywoo Talks and Quiet Strength, I have written two books. One E-book titled the Playbook, and a paperback titled Sturdy by 30. From there, I developed TyWrites, which works to assist others with all things writing, and publishing books. All of these fall under the now TyTalks non-profit organization. It’s pretty cool to see what the Lord has done.
Has it been a smooth road?
I guess the quick answer to this would be NO! LOL! Seriously though, nothing you do for the kingdom comes without strife. Starting a blog and telling your story is never easy and in the back of your mind you can’t help but think of what people may think about you. Still, the Lord calls us to be bold and I am a firm believer that your story is not for you to hide, but it’s for others to learn from and understand how to navigate life. I also love helping people publish their books because I spent years trying to figure out the best route to publish my own book, and so I sat on it for like three years. After overcoming that I feel like it’s my duty to be of service to others.
Aside from being so open in my writing it is also difficult to lead a ministry because you have to remember these are people, and you have to be careful of what you say and do as a leader, the decisions you make and so much when it concerns them. You always have to consider that you may be the only church or Christianity that some people receive so you have to lean and depend on God with every decision you make.
You also can’t beat yourself up when you make a mistake. I have made several and they hurt really bad but had I let them eat at me, TyTalks would have never happened and Quiet Strength would have been over long ago. There is always room for improvement. Improvement, change, and rest are all good things. When you feel pressure, it’s okay to step back, and it’s okay to say no.
We’d love to hear more about your organization.
So TyTalks is the non-profit which specializes in empowering women and encouraging them to become who God called them to be. TyTalks specializes in public speaking, empowerment workshops, seminars, and more.
Under TyTalks, there is Quiet Strength which, as mentioned is a Bible study group which also hosts events, retreats, and outings. The goal is to study the word of God and become strong in it. Also under TyTalks is TyWrites, which aims to assist people with all things writing such as resumes, cover letters, book flow reviews, publishing, and more at reasonable prices.
I am truly proud of each entity of TyTalks because they all aim to help people become their full selves. There is always more to us than what we allow the world to see day to day. Some teach, work in retail, work in corporate America and so on, but underneath all that, there is always something else. We all have gifts that belong to the kingdom and every entity of TyTalks aims to bring those gifts to surface. There’s never any envy or lack of desire to help a fellow sister or person in general to achieve their dreams. I firmly believe in helping people, and not having them break the bank to get help.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Well firstly I am in Montgomery, not Atlanta, but I have a few connections there and I admit I love your city. I try to visit as much as possible and I do believe Atlanta has a great appreciation for the arts, writing, and helping people. I have even done a book signing there and it was pretty cool, and I would love to do more.
I definitely believe any place is a place to start because you have nothing until you start, and by all means, Atlanta is a great place to start anything. I also know that you have to get out there as well. You can’t be afraid to connect with people on social media, to go out alone even and make connections. We have to do the work in order to grow a business, brand, ministry or anything for that matter.
