Meet LaKeisha R. Randall, Esq.

Today we’d like to introduce you to LaKeisha R. Randall, Esq.

LaKeisha, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Sure thing,  in the words of a former client“[w]hen you want something handled, call Attorney Randall.” Most of my friends, clients, and colleagues, would describe me as very action driven—I am passionate, I love hard and I am a natural fighter for the right thing

I grew up in southwest Atlanta and was fortunately raised in an environment where hard work, integrity, and self-awareness were cornerstones of my upbringing. I am a womanist, self-proclaimed hippie, and smoothie connoisseur, lol.

While I didn’t grow up dreaming of becoming an attorney, I’ve always valued storytelling, fighting for the marginalized and giving voice to those who are silenced. Growing up, I envisioned doing this through writing or journalism. I regularly wrote poetry, hardly bothered reading anything other than non-fiction, and asked my parents endless questions.  I enjoyed gathering facts, using my imagination, and sitting with my thoughts instead of being spoon-fed the thoughts of others.

I didn’t even consider law school until my junior year at GSU (Georgia State University).  In hindsight, however, my love for reading, fact gathering, and digging into the details are the essence of who I am and contribute to my success as a trial attorney.

I founded The Randall Firm to fight for the everyday person that needs justice. I brim with pride when my clients call me “their lawyer,” because many from my southwest Atlanta neighborhood did not grow up knowing any lawyers, yet alone one that they can easily reach and relate to.

I am building a community based practice that values my clients from Bankhead to Buckhead equally.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
(laughs), Not even close!  The myth of the smooth road and “happily ever after” are extremely dangerous–both thoughts create impossible standards that fuel unhappiness. While I probably wouldn’t frame them as struggles, I’ve certainly been fortified by some experiences.

While diversity and inclusion are touted as valued metrics in many organizations, the legal profession has a long way to go. A recent study showed that less than 15% of attorneys in the United States are people of color and less than 7% are African-American. My intersectionality of gender and race bring unique challenges in a white male oriented profession.

I am frequently in rooms where some believe I do not belong.  And, through micro-aggressions, some make this known. Thankfully, I know that I do and have learned to confidently use my voice.

Personally, some of my toughest lessons have been: (1) learning how to accept the pain of growth; (2) understanding “reason, season, or lifetime;” and (3) having the courage to take the road less traveled, especially if the full vision hasn’t been revealed.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
The Randall Firm: The Randall Firm is a Buckhead Atlanta law firm that specializes in all personal injury, wills, and estate planning. Our personal injury practice represents those who have been harmed due to the negligence of another person or company. This includes car, truck, and motorcycle accidents, 18 wheeler collisions, premises liability, products liability, botched surgeries, medical malpractice, catastrophic injuries, pursuing civil remedies for those who have been victims of violence, daycare abuse or neglect, nursing home abuse or neglect and more. We represent clients across Georgia with a particular focus on Atlanta metropolitan area, Columbus, Augusta, and Macon. We offer free consultations for personal injury cases so people are encouraged to call us at (404) 777-3833 to assess any grounds for recovery.

Regarding estate planning, The Randall Firm is on a mission to let others know that estate planning is for everyone! It is not restricted to those who are married, parents, or ultra wealthy. The Randall Firm’s estate planning practice drafts wills, power of attorneys, advanced health care directives, guardianship documents, trusts, and some prenuptial and postnuptial agreements.

Although I am a career civil litigator/trial attorney, I added estate planning to my practice because it is an access to justice issue. The working poor and middle class are disproportionately impacted in additional costs because they fail to adequately protect their wishes and assets that they’ve worked hard for.

One of the unique offerings of my firm is our Family Planning Meeting. For a negotiated rate, I will speak to families, churches, or organizations about estate planning collectively and subsequently, schedule 1:1 meetings to create a personalized plan. My clients love this service! The group setting plants a seed or stated differently, begins a sometimes uncomfortable conversation in an easier environment.

I am also a certified life coach and own Atlanta Life Coaching & Consulting.  I am known as “The Atlanta Coach.” Atlanta Life Coaching & Consulting is a professional service firm that offers life coaching, executive coaching, and wellness consulting. The Atlanta based firm offers services worldwide to individuals, law firms, bar associations, corporations, organizations, and education institutions.

Through private, semi-private and group accountability groups, I help clients navigate self-care, stress management, goal-setting, substance abuse, and teach active listening skills.  To minimize interruptions and help clients easily keep appointments, most services are virtual but in person sessions are available. A full listing of our services may be found here: https://www.theatlantacoach.com/coachingservices.

I have taught attorney wellness across the country for years and founded my consulting firm to help others too.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Absolutely, I am a product of a praying village, supportive family, friends, mentors and Sorors (DST). I am a first generation college graduate and lawyer so my success is their success too.

The elders of my village (grandparents and god-mother) were probably the most impactful during my formative years. They led by example, were slow to anger, quick to listen, made their presence felt and kept me in church.

My parents taught me to trust myself at an early age. They allowed me to try new things and didn’t shun me if I decided to move on from the activity of the moment. In hindsight, the freedom of trying and failing was critical. Even if failure hurts in the moment, I have a steady supply of fortitude to get up and try again.

I’m a girl’s  girl and have an amazing squad! My bio sisters are phenomenal.  I also have a pipeline of friends that have my back because they know that I’ll always have theirs. We genuinely root for each other, try to operate with vulnerability, and laugh. Life is too complicated not to have fun!

Finally, I am also a firm believer in each one, teach one. I regularly mentor and have a host of mentors and sponsors. If I admire someone, I tell them. If I want to learn something from someone, I ask–-humility goes a long way.
