Meet Marlon Rhine of The Rhine Law Firm in Decatur

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marlon Rhine.

Marlon, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
After I graduated from Emory University in Atlanta, I spent some time working at a law firm and playing music around the southeast. Eventually, I got an offer to go on tour with a signed band and I took it. My life in music taught me many things. Amongst them, the basics of running a small business as well as the importance of treating everyone you encounter with kindness as best you can.

After touring, I went off to law school, still keeping my toes dipped in the music world. Along the way, I met a musician named Colonel Bruce Hampton, who I tour managed for briefly and played trivia with weekly. At one of those trivia nights, Colonel Bruce ultimately introduced me to an Atlanta personal injury attorney who showed me the ropes of personal injury law. As funny as it is to say, I have and run a personal injury practice in large part because of the musician Colonel Bruce Hampton.

While in law school, I was involved in a severe auto accident. Going through that process first hand heavily informed and shaped how I run my practice today.

Has it been a smooth road?
I wouldn’t say that it has been smooth. However, I would say that in hindsight, I am grateful for all of the challenges that I’ve encountered along the way. I’ve heard it often said that if you’re not failing at anything, then you’re not trying hard enough. While I don’t enjoy failing, I certainly have and it’s always meant learning something important.

As far as struggles go, it’s the nature of personal injury cases that some cases will take more time to resolve. In the early days of my business, having the patience to wait for a case to mature properly was not always easy. As personal injury attorneys work on a contingency basis, this means that you don’t get paid until you resolve a case for a client. When first starting the business, this was not easy. That being said, I always knew that if I acted honestly and in the best interest of my clients, I would be able to build a business that would thrive in the long run. Having gotten to a place where we’re no longer a start up, I’ve seen that this was the correct approach. In fact, many of the current cases I have now came from referrals from those I represented previously.

Tell us more about the business.
The Rhine Law Firm is a personal injury law firm. We assist clients who have been injured due to the negligence of others. This includes auto accidents, trucking accidents, dog bites, wrongful deaths, trip and falls, negligent security cases, and other kinds of cases as well. We are known for handling cases with honesty and integrity. If we agree to take a case on, we will work to resolve it to the best of our abilities. On that same note, we are a firm that also litigates cases when necessary. That means filing lawsuits. There are a lot of personal injury firms that do not litigate cases and we often assist them with filing lawsuits as well.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
In Atlanta, traffic continues to be a major problem. Between that and the number of digital distractions most people now have in their cars (cell phones and other devices), I suspect that the number of accident cases will, unfortunately, continue to rise. This increase has coincided with many insurance companies tightening their purse strings and refusing to pay fair value for claims before filing a lawsuit. Accordingly, I would anticipate that the need for litigation in order to receive full value for cases will continue to rise as well.
