Today we’d like to introduce you to Zach Farley.
Zach, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I really honestly got my start in entrepreneurship after dropping out of my MSIT at Kennesaw State University. When I realized most of the stuff I was learning in class I was able to self teach myself at a quicker pace along with utliziing current technology I decided the degree was a waste of time. My business started out as a desire to earn extra income since I wasn’t making my desired amount of working corporate. Plus I had alot of free time on my hand so I asked myself why not start freelancing building websites and apps for my community?
Fast forward to about a five months later I was attending a weekly mastermind session with some other aspiring entrepreneurs and it was there I was posed with the questions “what value do I bring to my audience.?” and “what audience do I serve?” I had to do some deep reflecting to really answer those two questions and after about another 3.5 months later I’m at the current state of zCode Solutions. A business that provides a platform for beginner developers to grow and improve their skillset by building products for entrepreneurs.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The only real struggles I had to deal with were internal struggles. I realized I had an overwhelming lack of business acumen and knowledge. I didn’t know how to market, how to sell, how to properly pitch my value proposition and even how to draw up a proper contract. All of these knowledge gaps I had to take time to find a good mentor to fill those knowledge gaps. Once I had the knowledge then I needed to work improving my mindset to be more positive.
Tell us more about the business.
My business is called zCode Solutions. The core of what zCode Solutions does is provide an environment where beginners can improve their programming skillset by building products for entrepreneurs. The two problems we are solving are providing developers with an environment to build good coding practices in order to obtain their first developer job. The problem for entrepreneurs we solve is providing them with a low cost tech solution for testing and validating MVP ideas on their target audience.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I prefer to make my own luck. I don’t believe in good luck or bad luck only coincidences. That being said when I position myself correctly in situations that allow me to succeed those moments would only account for only 30% of how far I’ve gotten. Everything else is pure perseverance.
