Today we’d like to introduce you to Amira Brooks.
Amira, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My name is Amira Brooks, and I am a 22 years old entrepreneur, born and raised in Atlanta, GA. To shed light on how I started my business, and how I got to where I am today, I first gained my passion for eyelashes after I graduated high school and begin experimenting with strip lashes. My first couple pairs of lashes turned out to be funny looking on me, so I continued experimenting and on a mission of trial and error. I finally found the perfect style of strip lashes for my eye shape and fell in love instantly with the look of glam they gave me. As I went to further my education at Savannah State University, I met friends who shared my same interest in lashes and some who were passionate about hair.
During my last year in college, I decided I wanted to move back home to start my own lash business. That decision changed my life. When I came home, I had my plan together and was ready to start my journey. March 2018 is when I completed my course and was pronounced an official Atlanta Lash Tech. From that day forward, I was determined on perfecting my craft. I practiced daily or every other day, and I wrote out short term goals as well as long term goals, and with dates on them. I accomplished my first goal in July 2018 by working in a full hair salon, sided by seven stylists and one other Lash Tech.
This is where I landed most of my initial clients and mastered my customer service with them. I stayed there for a while and learned a lot, but I also faced a lot of challenges and endured many life lessons. This is really when I started to understand how the Beauty Industry works. After that experience, I put the goal in my head to have my own salon suite one day soon. I wrote out the steps needed to get me there. I worked hard, stayed consistent and kept my faith for months.
In March 2019, I opened a salon suite in The Historic West End of Atlanta. Having my own salon suite and managing three other stylists. Working together as a team has been absolutely everything I imagined. Now that I am in a very good place and have made a name for myself with work that speaks for itself in the Lash Industry, I still can’t help but to dream on bigger and better. This process has shown me that I know anything I put my mind to I will accomplish it.
Has it been a smooth road?
I would not describe this road as smooth, as I did experience a lot of hardship and tough times. Business and Personal wise, life happens and the only way to get through it is to maintain. Some struggles I had, at along the way was when I did not have much clientele. I was in a salon where booth rent was collected every Friday and there were some weeks that I earned little to no income.
Also, there was a time when my clientele dramatically picked up and I had to decide if I wanted to quit my job and do lashes full time. That decision was made off of faith, as I knew I had responsibilities as an adult but I knew I was capable of earning a decent income from lashing, where I could afford to pay all of my bills and miscellaneous expenses.

My business is Goddess Lashes Atl, and I do Mink Eyelash Extensions and sell lash products. I specialize in MIX/HYBRID sets which is a mix of classic and volume lashes. I am known for how natural my sets look and that is what I am most proud about. This hints of where my slogan “The Goddess Way” comes from. Every woman has the desire to look glamorous but still natural, not too much and not too little.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I absolutely feel like Atlanta is a good place for business in the Beauty Industry because there is a lot of opportunities here, and a large population of millennials that care about their appearance. I would most definitely recommend starting out here and would tell others, don’t worry about the number of similar businesses, let your work speak for itself and create your own lane!
