Today we’d like to introduce you to Lita Motes.
Lita, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
We started our new company in February 2005. After much thought, we settled on the name, ALLVIEW Home Inspections, LLC. It seemed a good name and everyone responded to it positively. Our first customer was Wes Sargenson of 11 Alive News. Our business grew quickly from that point.
Actually, CC transitioned from building and inspecting homes to inspecting home full time. I compared the requirements to be a home builder, the effort it takes, and the investment required, to be a successful home builder and decided that it was more suited to being a home inspector. The capital investment and responsibility of a home inspector is much less than that of a builder. Also, a home inspector does not have to be well versed in design and decorations that make a home enticing to a buyer. He was already doing home inspections with his brother and he had completed the school and passed the ICC Inspection Certifications for new homes, so it was easy to launch his inspection career full time. After having inspected and maintained aircraft for 26 years, building homes and inspecting homes, it just seemed like a natural transition to be a full-time home inspector. The last house that C.C. and his brother built together was inspected by a House Smart inspector. The inspector told C.C. that he was planning to leave the company and that if C.C. wanted to be an inspector full time, he should apply for a position with House Smart. C.C. wanted to build a career in home Inspections. So he interviewed, and was hired. He worked with House Smart for five years. While he was there he developed a large following of referring agents and clients in addition to those he already had. He built a loyal following and most of his inspection jobs were for people who requested him. Over the next five years he built a great following and so we felt it was time to start our own company.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I think what surprised us most was how immediately successful the business was. We sent out postcards to select agents to let them know where we were. From day one we were inundated with home inspection requests. Our business grew every year except for 2007 when we saw our business volume drop marginally. It seemed like the economy would go down, home sales would go down and our business would go up. Having and conducting this business has been an amazing experience for us. We never expected that we would be so blessed from the beginning. Most businesses will take five years to start doing well. That first week we were booked.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about ALLVIEW Home Inspections – what should we know?
We provide home inspection services for people who are selling a home, who are buying a home or who require consultation services for specific issues on their homes. We also provide inspections services for homeowners who want evaluations on their homes so they may keep their homes in good condition and avoid current or future problems.
We are also certified to do radon testing. The EPA recommends that every home be tested for radon every time someone purchases it. Even if the home has had high radon and there is a radon mitigation system installed in it, testing should be done every two years.
We have trained other inspectors who have moved on to other ventures, and we have trained inspectors who are still with us today. Though many people want to be inspectors, they are not all qualified and do not have the personnel or technical skills to inspect a home and produce a clear and understandable report. The report is the necessary fruit and culmination of the inspection. It is the only thing the client has to work from and the document they rely on to make the decision on the purchase of a home. We only keep inspectors who do the same high-quality work that C. C. and I offer to our clients. We want our inspectors to be not just good inspectors, but also know how to present the inspection report. Our inspectors have good moral and family values. That is important to us.
Our inspectors have the highest integrity and always tell the truth. If they make a mistake, they just put it out there and get it resolved. If the inspector’s mistake causes us to have to make reparations to someone, we just do that and move on with pride. These positive actions insure that we have a happy client and maintain our stellar reputation in the industry. We always want to do the right thing for everybody.
When the clients attend the inspection, CC give them a five-minute briefing describing what they may expect from the inspection, how we conduct it and the scope of the inspection. We want our clients to know up front what to expect before, during and after the inspection. Some inspections reveal numerous maintenance items. The long list of items sometimes shocks our clients, so we try to prepare them for what we may find. We all know everything may be repaired. Some things are easier to repair than others.
Our Team:
Lucas Worosilo is one of our premier inspectors. CC met him at an ASHI meeting several years ago. He looked new, so CC approached him to inquire as to his status and talk to him about his inspection career. He was working with another company, placing and retrieving radon machines. He was not being trained to perform inspections though he wanted the inspection training. CC offered to take him on an inspection with him, and the rest is history. He wanted to be trained and now he is doing inspections for ALLVIEW Home Inspections. He is an ASHI ACI Certified inspector. His work ethic is superlative. The agents and clients trust him and appreciate the quality of his inspections and reports. He is a good family man and works really hard. He is an indispensable member of our team.
Billy Wood is newest member of our team. He came to us from another company where he attended a Professional Inspection School and performed more than 200 inspections. He completed his training with C.C. and is now an ASHI ACI Certified inspector. Billy is fully trained on our inspection techniques and inspection software. He produces impressive, clear and complete inspection reports for our clients.
Michael Gipson was a real estate investor with his brother. He was looking for something new to do. CC did an inspection for Michael’s former employer and he recommended CC should talk to Michael. He has been with me almost one year and has assisted CC with more than 200 inspections.
Janice is our Business Manager, bookkeeper and scheduler. She helps me with the business operations and scheduling. We are able to send email confirmations sooner and always have someone available to answer the phones.
We have just an amazing team of inspectors and we are so proud of each one of them.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
CC worked with House Smart for five years. While he was there he developed a large following of referring agents and clients in addition to those he already had. He built a loyal following and most of his inspection jobs were for people who requested him.
