Today we’d like to introduce you to David Forehand.
David, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My whole life, I have gravitated towards cameras and creating as a hobby. In 2011 I got my first camera and knew that I wanted to make that a career one day. I went to college at Emmanuel College and majored in Digital Media Production (Editing) with a minor in Film. Once I graduated, I moved to Los Angeles to learn more about the industry and gain as much experience as I possibly could. Within two months of being in LA, I found myself shooting a video starring Demi Lovato at her house. That moment was such an amazing feeling that I couldn’t help but chase opportunities that would provide that again. I then went on to work with the director, Sam Speigel, shooting with Madison Beer, taking photos for Migos, Travis Scott, Kamaiyah, Vince Staples, and so many other music artists that I look up to. In 2018 I became friends with the director of content for the social networking app, Triller. I then started shooting their content, events, editing their media, and traveling to places like Paris and Las Vegas to capture these experiences. In June 2019, I moved back to my home state Georgia because I felt like Atlanta needed an outlet to create short-form content for brands, businesses, influencers, music artists, and anyone with a product. Since moving back to Atlanta, I have been able to work with some very talented people like TK Kravitz, DC YoungFly, Cam Kirk, and others. I am very excited to see what can be accomplished for content here in Atlanta.
Has it been a smooth road?
Along the way, it hasn’t been easy. There are highs and lows. Sometimes this industry gets lonely in a way, and it’s tough working in an industry that can test your morals. Also, feeling valued is one of the biggest things in my book as a creator, and I don’t feel like that is a top priority for most people. I have learned to trust the process and enjoy the journey because you can get lost, sometimes focusing on the end goal that it takes away from what you are doing in the present.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Gatewood Creative story.
Gatewood Creative is centered around creating unique content. We specialize in video production/content creation, and we offer videography/photography for music videos/studio content, events, brand campaigns, business commercials, short films, promotional content, fashion content, etc. We also love to help, after the content is created, push the content so that the target audience is reached to its full potential.
In the Entertainment/ Music industry, you always have to be testing yourself and creating unique content to push out into the world. That is my passion, and that’s what I want my business to be centered around. Letting artists, influencers, brands, and businesses come to me with an idea so we can fulfill that vision and make it something that no one has seen before.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see Gatewood Creative becoming the home for content creation here in Atlanta for any person that has a story, any song that needs visuals, any event that needs coverage, and any product that needs promotional media. In the next 1-2 years, I want to have a studio that people can come to and create and also have a home for the business.
