Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Muccino.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Lauren. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio where I also attended the University of Cincinnati. After changing majors three times, I landed as a film major. Although I knew I was meant to be in the film industry, I also knew that what it was going to take wouldn’t happen in Cincinnati. I had to relocate, and so I did. I dropped out of university and moved to Atlanta when I was 19. I didn’t have any family or friends here. I didn’t even know the roommate I was about to move in with! However, confirmation from the universe was received when Atlanta welcomed me in with open arms. I found lovely friends fairly quickly upon moving here, and they remain as some of my closest support. After getting comfortable with the city, and meeting new people, I decided to dive right into the film industry- the reason I moved here in the first place. I started by writing my first script. When it came time to film my story, I had a calling to act in my piece. This brought me to realize the passion I felt towards the art of acting. I immersed myself in it completely. In addition to acting in my own project, I also acted in another short film and began taking acting classes. Now, I am 21 years old, with a completed short film that I wrote, directed, and acted in, and I am working every day to push into the acting industry.
Has it been a smooth road?
In my chosen industry, the road is hardly ever smooth. Complications when creating my film seemed to arise everywhere. The date I had anticipated finishing my film kept getting pushed back more and more. From the time I completed writing my short film to when it was complete took 11 months! And mind you, the film is only 11 minutes long. That’s a month per minute of footage! So, setbacks are a huge part of the filmmaking process. In my acting, I have also faced setbacks and rejection. In my journey now, I am on a mission to get signed with an acting agency in Atlanta. I was lucky enough to be considered by the top agency in the city, but they decided to pass on me. I was so heartbroken by this and started to doubt myself seriously. I had to remind myself that I will face far more rejection as an actor than acceptance. I have to fall in love with all parts of this profession, including the parts that hurt my ego. The bumps in the road are not only improving my understanding of the industry, but they are also contributing to my growth as a human.
Please tell us about your work.
I am an actor and filmmaker. As far as filmmaking goes, I am open to all genres, but I tend to enjoy writing dramas and thrillers above all else. I would say I’m personally known for modeling in Atlanta over what I feel passionate about. I feel this will shift, though, as I grow more and more in my career. I am most proud of the completion of my first film. It was such a rewarding process, and I would do it a million times over! My ambition and drive set me apart from others. Once I decide that I want something, I will do everything possible to obtain it.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I talk about this all of the time! I always tell people that as far as US cities go- LA has the terrain, NYC has the fashion, Chicago has the architecture- BUT I have never been to a city with better people. That is my favorite part of Atlanta. I end up having so many meaningful conversations with strangers in the city. Not to mention, I have made some of the most incredible friends here. I also love how to open Atlanta is to offering up and coming artists a chance to shine!
My least favorite part about Atlanta is Buckhead. The people there don’t represent the city well, and don’t even get me started on the Buckhead bars! I will give them credit for the food there, though. Some of the best food I’ve ever had has been in Buckhead. But I still don’t like it there. Can’t change my mind!!!!
