Flame, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started writing & recording music at the age of 11. I began taking my music career seriously. After losing one of my older brothers/ role models Byron Watson (B.K.A Breezie in the streets of West Atlanta) to gun violence back in 2007. Shortly after losing my brother, who was also best friends & 1 of the primary leaders of today’s major music artist known as Ralo (Terrell Davis) music group FAMERICA, I began performing at different venues across north, south, east, & west Atlanta. Shortly after my brother breezie passed away, my dad caught a 51/2 year bid in prison and was sent to Hancock state prison. Around that time me and my dad was living in the bluff, which was located in West Atlanta.
A few years later, my mom moved from East point to Fulton county, where I began attending a Philip Randolph Elementary & Sandtown middle school. I was later kicked out of Sandtown middle school for fighting the teacher. I was expelled from Fulton county schools and ordered to attend an alternative school in Clayton county. We then moved from Fulton to Clayton around 2008. After a year of alternative school, I was accepted in Mundys Mill High School, where I created a music group called “Dream Team.” While pursuing my football career, which was originally my first love, I ended up going to jail for the first time. My mom couldn’t afford to bail me out, so I ended up sitting in jail days before graduation, which affected me being able to walk the stage with my class back in 2011.
I still went on to receive my diploma at Mundy’s mill high school after I was released & attended Gordon State College in Barnesville, Georgia. I began working towards becoming a certified football coach majoring in Physical education in case my music career didn’t work out. I set my studio up almost everywhere I went, so while in college, I began recording music in my room & performing in Barnesville, Georgia. The school denied me from staying on campus being that I was on first offender probation at the time, so I ended up moving in the apartment off-campus.
Two years into attending college, I ended up signing my first publishing deal with FTC Publications founded by Warith Niallah. After signing with Warith, I began building a relationship with Breadwinner Ron Of Kevin Gates label Bread Winners Association. We later began building a relationship & dropped a mixtape entitled “Changes” on spinrilla & more Hosted by BWA & Bread Winner Ron. I was later arrested for firearm charges back in Clayton county. I was sentenced to a year’s time served.
Once I was released, I went on to publish my entertainment company Flame Nation Entertainment. I then started collaborating with major musicians like Mykko Montana, Fabo Of D4L, and more. After being released from jail, I was somewhat homeless. I was living inside a studio on Roosevelt highway. I also lost my publishing deal with Warith. Shortly after, I found myself back in jail for firearm charges once again. By the Grace of God, I wasn’t sent to prison & released on probation. While incarcerated I wrote my first book entitled “The Past Didn’t Last”. This book is a true story about my life & the obstacles I had to face & how I maneuvered through them. I’m currently working on getting it published.
After being home for almost five months now, I’ve performed at a few venues in Atlanta & Florida thus far. I also recently signed a new management deal with Paid Jake of Atlanta City Records. I’ve done a few radio interviews – Misfits radio etc. I also have other upcoming radio interviews with streetz 94.5 & more! Stay tuned for my new book “The Past Didn’t Last” as well as new music & future endeavors.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Most definitely haven’t been a smooth road. Some of my struggles were having to deal with losing significant loved ones to death, etc. incarceration, being homeless & having to rebuild consistently. Not being able to work certain jobs because of felonies, which forced me to become a young entrepreneur.
Flame Nation Entertainment – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My company Flame Nation Entertainment isn’t just a record label but also specializes in comedy, acting etc. We are mainly known for producing and distributing new music , music videos & other content worldwide. We’re normally looking for new partners in and outside the music industry to build new relationships. We’re always looking to invest in independent artist with a story to tell. We are most proud of the investments made thus far without an investor or label, the obstacles faced like incarceration & still coming out on top after losing everything. What separates us from others is how we’re built off of LOYALTY rather than money. We give knowledge on artist development free of charge.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
My definition of success wouldn’t necessarily be the amount of money you’ve earned through time, but more so, the amount of lives you’ve touched and changed for the better.
