Meet Duranice Pace

Today we’d like to introduce you to Duranice Pace.

Duranice, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I got started when I was five years old. I was inspired by my father, who was a professional quartette singer for Gospel Starlight’s and my mom, who sang during praise and worship what was then known as testimony service at church. My father would have rehearsal every Wednesday in our living room with his singing group, and my siblings and I would peep in on their rehearsals. We would also go see my father perform with his quartette group at various musical halls in downtown Atlanta, and when I saw him on stage, I was so inspired and thought, “I want to sing like my father.” I would watch films and broadways plays like Mary Poppins and FAME, and it always caught my attention to see the crowd react with smiles and tears. Soon after, my brother, myself, and my sisters started singing as The Pace Family. Once my brother left the group to pastor his own church, we became the Anointed Pace Sisters. We traveled all over the city, then all over Georgia to sing. Soon we were invited to sing all over the nation for gospel musical workshops, conventions, and varied events. We became apart of the international choir, Church of God in Christ (C.O.G.I.C.), to sing in front of over 3,000 people. The choir director recognized our voices and asked if we would sing at the Church of God in Christ’s musical. It was then The Pace Family became popular, and that’s how we started getting future engagements and traveling.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Back in the late 60’s when we first started singing, we didn’t have any contracts or deposits for events we were getting booked for, we just had to get there. So it was tough when we first started because we didn’t have enough money to travel to our bookings or have enough money to pay for our hotels and food. Our father would pitch in and help us out by renting a rental car. Then the Lord blessed us to allow my brother and father to purchase a 45-passenger bus for us to travel. I thank the Clark Sisters, James Cleveland, and Shirley Cesar, and other legends for paving the way to make things easier for us to travel to different events we were booked for.

Tell us more about your work.
I inspire people to hold on and expect great things to come their way in their favor. I’m most proud that God has given me favor with people where I can go into a restaurant, airport, or even Walmart and I see 20-30 people asking me to sing for them. Some of their reactions include smiling or crying. Some of them even tell me that my songs have helped them to feel better, hold on, or keep going, and that is the greatest feeling. I’m inspired because I love people, and it makes me happy to see people smile. This is why I call my business a healing ministry because people ask me to help heal them and make them feel better. I know it’s not coming from me, but from God and I’m so thankful that I can help touch people’s hearts. What sets me apart is my spontaneity in song. A lot of people have talent but are afraid to use it. I’m not afraid to sing in public, so whenever God tells me to sing, I sing and the entire atmosphere of wherever I am complete changes. It’s like a miracle.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck did not play any role in my life. It was all a tragedy. But God turned my calamity into prosperity.
