Today we’d like to introduce you to Nigeria Ealey, Esaïe Jean-Simon and Victor James.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Nigeria, Esaïe and Victor. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
We started in Brooklyn as three self-taught black men who had a passion for art, fashion, and culture. We each specialized in different styles of art and carried ourselves with our unique style. Within our group of friends, we began to hang out together more often to brainstorm our ideas about the fashion industry, artwork, trends, concepts, cultural relations and instantly found common ground amongst each other. From there, we knew we had a bigger vision. On December 28, 2014 we launched Tier NYC and officially became the brand we’d use to express our stories and artistry. It became a lifestyle.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?Creating and maintaining the brand has not been a smooth road. Although we sold out of most of our inventory at our launch, it was not enough to cover the costs of newer designs. The three of us constantly invested our personal funds in the brand to support new designs, pop up shops, and manufacturing. It was also very difficult to book venues during the beginning stages because we are young black males. To the masses, unfortunately, this often seems out of the ordinary. We quickly learned to make the most of our network/community and took a lot of advice from people that excelled at whatever we were trying to do. We took some chances but also learned from our mistakes along the way.
Please tell us about your business.
Tier NYC is a brand. We create our own original clothing, from the pattern to the material and presentation. We are proud of the fact that we have the support of our community, which consists of people who are all building their brands/talents to the best that they can be.
