Today we’d like to introduce you to Jocelyn Eris.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jocelyn. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’m from this small town in south Fulton, Palmetto GA. I grew up w/ a couple of my 1st cousins & big sister in a house my granddaddy built. While the adults out working, we were either in or outside the house entertaining each other. I’ve always been into music but didn’t fall in love with rap until 2000 when Bowwow came out w/”Beware of Dog.” It was just so cool to see a kid flowing. My big sister also plays a huge part of introducing me to rap. She got T.I.’s urban legend one Christmas & stayed bumping Jeezy thug motivation 101, so that’s what I was listening to too! I always been good w/ entertaining & communicating w/ people but it wasn’t until my senior yr hs where I found my voice & started using it. I was gifted the MacBook Pro before heading off to college & would post lil raps to Facebook from there. But it really got real in college. I went to Valdosta State for Mass Media & was introduced to a lot of creatives. I did VSUs 1st live cypher in 2013 & the reaction I got from the crowd made me want to keep going. Soon as I got back to A from school, I was in the studios & around the creatives from home! I’d JEMix the hottest raps out & put my country flow on it, put a lil visual to it & post to I.G. & get good feedback from that. In 2018, I dropped my 1st project, Happy Went Petty, & just like Deontay Wilder says. “TIL THIS DAY” that’s what I’m pushing!
Has it been a smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road at all. I chose to pick up bad habits along the journey. All the weed I am smoking has made the roads a lil foggy but interesting, to say the least & of course choosing to speak on issues like insecurity, my sexuality & a host of toxic things hasn’t brought the best energies near. My main focus w/ my music, message & image is to be authentic and true to myself as possible. My videos may not get as many views as a female w/ a bright lace & full face but I’m staying true to the fact of this just really how I look. Lol
I ain’t going for no disrespect either. I’ll do without or not work w/ a mf if I feel disrespect or gotta compromise my morals. I don’t need that resource or won’t go them type avenues. Anything I gain, I can say I earned and worked for.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
My business is me! I’m an independent recording artist. I specialize in rap but I can carry a tune too. I got a couple of songs where I’m singing a bit. I’m most proud of the fact that I’m trying to pursue this type career. Most people where I come from may have a dream but don’t really try to pursue it. I’m just proud of myself for wanting more than just a regular life. I think what sets me apart from others is that I believe!
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the fact that Palmetto is small and peaceful, but because it’s so small, it isn’t well known or respected. I know it’s on the map, but I want the people of Palmetto to be proud to rep it, or the ones who drove through town can feel cool because they did.
