Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Travers.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jasmine. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
“Jasmine, we think you would be a better fit for our HR Coordinator opening are you interested, if so the job is yours,” was the email from the company I interviewed with for a completely different role. I took it as a sign from God that my impending career change was within reach. Today, I am a HR professional who loves helping others reach their strongest potential. My career started rather serendipitously, and I had no idea I would love it the way I do now. I always found joy in helping others by sending friends and family jobs. Taking this step has allowed me to finally connect my passion to my vocation. After months of training, conducting interviews, and reviewing resumes, I noticed an unsettling trend. Candidates had no idea what they were doing wrong in interviews and on their resumes. To mitigate this, Polished Career Services was founded in 2017. I decided to create a business that would provide practical career guidance and motivate job seekers to think strategically about where they want to be in the corporate world. Through professional development, interview tips and networking events, Polished Career Services works to support candidates seeking to achieve their professional goals.
My approachable personality works in tandem with understanding the needs of my clients and ensuring their success. I take pride in my ability to connect with professionals on a personal level. I’ve dedicated myself to improving the workforce as well as the lives of those who are looking to take their career goals to the next level.
Our services include: Resume revamping, Interview Tips and Conducting mock interviews and more!
Polished Career Services holds networking events frequently throughout the year. To stay connected with us and for quick tips, follow our social media accounts and subscribe.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Smooth road? What’s that, lol. It has NOT been a smooth road. There were days when I would post on social media and not receive any likes, or in my eyes, any attention from people. I have had months where I wouldn’t receive any customers, months where I didn’t feel motivated to continue with the business, etc. Also, running a business is expensive, and being a single mom on top of a business owner can make me sometimes neglect the little things that help keep the company running. So there were times where I wasn’t able to pay those fees, and it hurt my company.
Please tell us about the business.
You can think of Polished as your one stop shop for all things career related. We specialize in assisting professionals with their career goals. We host networking events around the Washington, DC Metro area, webinars, provide job search, resume, and interview tips. We even give advice on how to negotiate salaries, how to deal with toxic workplaces, and how to use your annual/mid year reviews for leverage. Anything career related, we are here to help! Not only do we provide these services, but we collaborate with non-profits for events as well. For example, we have collaborated with IMPACTdmv, a non profit that aims towards promoting creative, academic, and career growth through early adulthood. With IMPACTdmv, we assist with their annual career workshops and assist students in high school with their resumes, cover letters, and professional etiquette. Giving back to the community is something we love doing!
With all of that said, I think that’s what sets us apart from others. Other career organizations or businesses are solely focused on providing resume services. Polished was created to teach professionals and create a space where like minded professionals can share their stories and even assist the next professional. I am proud that Polished has become just that, and we have a bright future ahead!
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Great question! I am currently in the process of actually removing resume services from the services I provide. I want to teach customers and show them how to do their own resumes. We plan on hosting webinars, seminars, and job fairs in the future. I’m also looking to turn this into a Staffing Agency while still have some components of the original company. I want to do more networking events where like minded professionals are able to network and learn from others. Also, getting my own office space where I can open up a career center for the community.
