Conversations with the Inspiring Alexandria Peters

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexandria Peters.

Alexandria, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I always knew that I wanted to be an entrepreneur at some capacity and initially, determining what my business would be about was the hard part. I ultimately decided to combine a few things that I love: helping others and cosmetics. I wanted my business to be unique, so after a lot of time spent on praying and brainstorming, I incorporated elements of my personality and lifestyle.

Meditating is important to me and I’m always sharing various techniques with friends and family, so I thought, “Why not add this to the brand?”. I’m someone who has tackled anxiety for as long as I can remember and I have personally found ways of motivating myself to be the best me, maintaining a positive outlook, and truly feeling like a beautiful person. This is why it was necessary for mental health to be a focal point of my business.

Since the brainstorming phase, my hope, dream, and goal for Bigger Than Beauty have been to add light to anyone’s life who wants to nurture their self-esteem and feel empowered. All of the beauty products, from lipgloss to eyelashes, have special names. I want “Beauties” to embody the name of the products they choose for themselves, like “self-love”. I like the fact that Bigger Than Beauty has range. We offer a variety of beauty products, as well as services, like life coaching and grad caps.

Bigger Than Beauty is less than a year old and I am already proud of its progress. There are a lot more plans that will be implemented in the future, so definitely stay tuned!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No journey that I’ve been on, at least, was smooth sailing. There are always obstacles that may present a laundry list of reasons to not continue.

Before launching my business, there were several times when I thought I was in way over my head. I wasn’t sure if my business’ message would be perceived correctly. I was worried about every little detail being perfect. I even considered giving up. I have a wonderful support system that kept me level headed. I relied on my faith and meditated. These are all things that kept me afloat throughout my process and still do.

I would advise other women to focus on why they are starting in the first place. It’s easy to drown in the negative noise, but you have to also change your mindset when things appear to not be temporarily working out.

What should we know about Bigger Than Beauty? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Bigger Than Beauty is known for being an inspirational beauty brand that brings awareness to mental health. What’s significant about our beauty products is that they each have a positive name that we want the “Beauty” wearing it to take on. We currently have a variety of lip glosses and eyelashes. Life coaching and grad caps are also services that we offer.

Most of all, I am proud that Bigger Than Beauty is a business that helps others and represents positivity.

Do you have any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general? What has worked well for you?
Rely heavily on your interpersonal communication skills. Having social medial platforms are great, but don’t forget to speak about your business and passions to everyone you meet. You never know where a conversation will take you.
