Today we’d like to introduce you to Kate Grabowski.
Kate, before we jump into specific questions about the organization, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
This past summer, I had the amazing opportunity to go backpacking in Salmon national Forest and the Lehmi mountains. When I was there, I saw some of the most beautiful mountains, views, and sights I have ever seen and I decided I needed to do something to help the environment. My grandfather also inspired me. He told me he picks up three pieces of trash every time he goes to the beach, which gave me the idea for 3 pieces.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No. It is still not a smooth road because it is hard to get most people to pick up trash. However, many younger children, including my siblings and their friends, are very enthusiastic about 3 pieces.
Please tell us about your organization.
3 pieces is a non-profit that encourages people to pick up at least three pieces of trash every week. To hopefully one day help create a trash free ocean.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My little sister and her friends made me business cards.
