Today we’d like to introduce you to Deondra Williams.
Deondra, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Everything began when I was in high school. I would wake up every morning and beat my brows to perfection. I would always receive many compliments on them and soon, others would ask me how much would I charge to do theirs for special occasions. After my senior year, I begin noticing that Lash Extensions were becoming very popular. My birthday was coming up in a few weeks and I wanted to take a lash class but didn’t have enough money, so my mom surprised me with the deposit for my class. Weeks later, she convinced me to get out of the house and look for different places nearby I could do lashes and less than an hour later, I found my very own storefront. I had my grand opening shortly afterwards and began perfecting my craft. I soon noticed where Permanent Makeup was becoming a huge thing. (“Ombré Brows,” “Microblading “), etc. Which is a cosmetic technique using colored pigment to enhance our features such as eyebrows and lips by inserting ink into the first layer of skin. (Dermis) giving you the flawless makeup look every single day without actually applying it. And with the brow skills I already had, I felt like that was the perfect opportunity to add on new services and expand my business.
Has it been a smooth road?
I feel like no matter what career path you decide to take. There will always be bumps in the road. I’ve endured many struggles, including not seeing my full potential and believing in myself the way I should. I always tell people the beauty industry is such an excellent place to start a business because it continues to grow drastically, but it’s very easy to get lost and become unsure when you’re afraid to start something new due to what others may think of your work or what you’re selling. But you have to trust yourself enough to know what you’re offering is worth it and if you don’t believe in your abilities, do you think many others will?
Tell us more about the business.
Beauty by Divine opened in November of 2016. I specialize in many different areas, but I am most known for my Lash Extensions and Ombré Brows. One of the many things I am proud of would have to be making other women feel beautiful not only on the outside but inside as well. You’d be surprised at the things you and a stranger have in common, or how well you connect. I’ve made many friendships from doing what I love and they have all impacted my life in ways I can’t explain. If anything had to set me apart from others, it would be the quality of my work.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Over the next 5-10 years, I see my business expanding more into the beauty industry as well as Health & Wellness and moving to a bigger city and location.
