Today we’d like to introduce you to Ursula Smalls.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have always had a desire to serve and give back to the community. I volunteered for 7 years at Atlanta Union Mission (My Sister’s House) a homeless shelter for women, having the desire to get these women on the road to self-sufficiency, through Life Skills Training, Job Training, Job Assistance & Housing Assistance, Byrd Outreach & Training Center (A 501-C3) was formed.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are always challenges with having the funding to serve those who are in need at the time they are in need, once you take a call from someone who is about to lose everything or has lost everything and have nowhere to turn, if you are unable to assist them at that moment you lose them.
Byrd Outreach & Training Center – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Byrd Outreach & Training Center was formed to get women on the road to self-sufficiency through Life Skills Training, Job Training, Job Placement, & Housing Assistance. Throughout the years, Byrd Outreach holds workshops consisting of Health & Wellness, Job Interviewing Techniques, Resume Writing, Basic Computer Training & Dress To Impress. We also hold Food & Clothing Drives.
I am most proud of having a client come back and letting us know the type of positive impact our program has had in her life.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Making a difference in the lives of people who had given up hope & seeing a smile on the face of others when they realize that someone does care & hasn’t given up on them.
