Today we’d like to introduce you to Lucy Smith.
Lucy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My son was born March of last year and thus began my stay at home mom life. It took a lot of getting used to after working as a case manager for kids with autism for almost five years. Suddenly my days were both very free and very busy. I needed a hobby and I’ve always loved to craft. So a few months into my new life/routine I got the itch to purchase a Cricut.
I started my Etsy shop right away. The plan was to sell only decals. It wasn’t long, however, before I started creating onesies and t-shirts in my spare time. I loved the creativity that went along with creating my own designs and was instantly hooked.
Since starting the shop in September 2019, I have branched out to many different products including – shirts, sweatshirts, baby onesies, mugs, water bottles, ornaments, decals, iron ons, makeup bags, ring dishes, and stickers.
Has it been a smooth road?
Learning the world of Etsy was a challenge. I assumed it would be a quick and easy start. Boy was I wrong. There is a LOT of time, effort, and research that needs to go into opening and running a successful Etsy shop. I’m still learning new things six months later.
My biggest struggle to begin with was my photos – I didn’t think they mattered but they definitely do. Taking pictures of my products is now my favorite part of the business.

If I had to choose something to be known for I think it would be my campfire mugs and my Lizzo inspired items.
I made my husband a campfire mug one day and posted it to my Instagram, where it got a lot of positive feedback. So I created a custom campfire mug listing to my shop. I didn’t really think it would be much of a hit. I was wrong. Within a few weeks of offering the mugs the listing received a “bestseller” badge on Etsy, which was extremely exciting!
