Meet Diamond Ross

Today we’d like to introduce you to Diamond Ross.

Diamond, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve always had the dream to start a clothing line since I was back home in the DMV. Before moving to ATL, I tried to collaborate with other creatives and see what we could accomplish but it never seems to work out. When I finally moved to Atlanta, I continued on my own. Still, I quickly realized after dropping a 50 pcs branding idea how much money it went into starting a brand, so I pretty much stopped and got into photography. At some point, I finally found my people here in Atlanta and finally, my creative juices came back to start another clothing line which was back in 2016. Passion Over Pain was the name I finally came up with and it pretty much stemmed from my struggles with wanted this brand for so many years but having so many personal struggles that stopped me before.

In 2017 I was diagnosed with Brain Cancer which took a toll on me. It def came as a surprise but I kind of knew something was wrong. When I finally pushed through that with the grace of God. I went as hard as I could in the beginning of 2019 pushing product and just mapping out a plan and signifying what my brand really meant to me. It’s about striving to reach your passion throughout any obstacles you ever have along the way and that we are on no one’s timeline but our own. I’ve also been inspired by the people that I have had the chance to be around. They are all young black creators that got it going on. Being around people who you make you want to be better is always a good thing and I thank them for that. My goal today is to continue to learn and create and make sure that I give my all in whatever I do.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Throughout my life, there have been struggles, some small some big. One thing that has not change is how self-motivated I am to be better. When you deal with a life or death matter like cancer, you tend to see yourself in a different aspect and I realized that I had some significant things that needed to change and I made sure I got it done because without growth, then what is the point.

Tell us more about the business.
Passion Over Pain is a lifestyle brand for most people of all ages and sex. My clothing is very much for the common human comfy fit streetwear style that anyone can appreciate. I have hats, T-shirts, hoodies, shorts and sweats and I create my own designs. Outside of the clothing, I also design graphics, sew and I am a photographer who is incorporated under POP Studios. I have several proudest moments but if I could choose one it would be when my friends have supported me by purchasing my products and reposting on IG. That was really special because it let me know that they cared and actually liked what I had going on. What sets me apart from others is that I have been doing this for over ten years, whether it has been from sketching to vision boards to set up a meeting to make some shit shake all to start something I could call my own is what sets me apart. That’s really why I appreciate those who support me.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Honestly, I have never felt lucky. I always felt like hard work, knowledge and skill will get me where I need to be. I’m blessed to be alive so if that’s luck, then I guess ill take that.
