Today we’d like to introduce you to Cassie Lowe.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Cassie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I grew up dancing, singing, and acting in community theatres throughout Pittsburgh, PA (my stomping grounds!) I knew from a young age that I wanted to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. Upon graduating high school, I attended Point Park University and earned my Bachelor in Musical theatre by 2015. In my mind, the best place to test my training was NYC. A full year in that city spit me up and chewed me out. I was working so many jobs to pay bills and feed myself that I was neglecting my craft. I felt useless, untalented, and lost. With literally two weeks until I had to sign a new lease I received an email from my cousin, a stunt man who had been doubling for Chris Pratt at the time. He said that Atlanta was quickly becoming the hot spot for entertainment and I had better get in on that before everyone else decides to. It was almost as if I was hit over the head by a sign saying: “This is the next step, Cass! This is where you should be!”. Without really knowing anyone or having any solid industry connections I picked up my life and moved it down to the dirty south. August 1st, I’ll never forget the day. A new month in a new city, a clean slate. I’ve been here for almost four years, now: auditioning, sometimes booking, always grinding.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Trying to find a foot-hole in this industry is not easy. The road ahead is riddled with self-doubt, second-guessing, moments of clarity, more self-doubt, and a constant struggle for financial stability. I’ve had to dog-walk, babysit, work in retail, and wait tables. All the while, I’ve had to watch my friends take impressive jobs with solid pay and decent health insurance. I think the hardest pill to swallow when it comes to this career is knowing that this bumpy road will continue and continue until I “make it”, or decide to look for work in a more obtainable industry.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I’m an actor! So my business is me, myself, and I. I’m selling my look, my personality, my emotions. This makes my job very different because I am the only one who can offer what I have. A lot of my work as an actor comes from rigorous self-examination. I’m a vigilant observer of my behavior and how I interact with people. I take note of how things effect me emotionally and in turn how I effect others. I’m forever watching movies, reading plays, going to museums, seeing a ballet, etc. I seek art all of the time. I’m in the Murder Mystery Co. with American Immersion Theatre (check them out!) and I’m currently in the Meisner Intensive studying the Meisner Technique at Robert Mello Studios. I have one of the coolest jobs in the world: exploring humanity through human connection.
What were you like growing up?
I was a quirky, crazy little ball of energy. I was a very sassy child that loves to be in charge. I was continually playing dress up and creating my characters. Sometimes I would go to the movies and spend the entire next day trying to organize my fellow daycare members into a reenactment of my favorite scene. I had to always being going and doing. I rarely sat still.
