Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Williams, Meagan Manago.
Lauren Williams and Meagan Manago received a vision from God for Daughter of a King in July 2017 and it came to life in January 2018. It was birthed from their time of personal and spiritual growth while living together in Los Angeles. Their journey in the big city was rooted in a daily pursuit to seek God’s purpose for their lives. As the two best friends and roommates spent more time learning about the Bible and chasing after the Lord, He began to reveal visions, strengths, and spiritual gifts they didn’t know were within them. While under the profound teaching of Bishop Kenneth Ulmer and the Faithful Central Bible Church, Lauren and Meagan believed God was calling them to start an “unconventional ministry” for millennial women. Jesus Christ is the foundation of Lauren and Meagan’s friendship and it all started with accountability. Lauren and Meagan have been friends since 2012 and the dynamic duo continues to walk through life as accountability partners – in good and bad times. God always has and continues to use them to speak to one another, teach one another, and learn from one another. As they continued to seek the Lord individually, He revealed a way for them to serve His kingdom collectively. It has always been an earnest desire to reach women like them and to be able to relate, share, and uplift other women along this journey called life with Jesus.
Has it been a smooth road?
No, definitely not smooth. The blessing always comes with trials and tribulations or what we call “the fine print”.
When we first started, we were using our own funds out of pocket for pretty much everything. Whether it was renting rooms for our local gatherings, food for our members when we fellowship together or marketing materials to let women know we are a safe space community. The Lord quickly opened doors and brought people in our lives who believed in the vision God gave us and started sewing into the nonprofit financially. This has helped us tremendously as we have expanded our operations.
Also, as time went on we began to struggle with busyness. We became so focused on curating events rather than seeking God to make sure we were meeting the needs of the community He assigned us to. After a couple of years of upward progression we had to take a step back — to rest and reset our mind, body and spirit. Our organization is founded solely for the purpose of leading women closer to Christ. We rewrote our mission and vision statement and began to be more intentional about curating our events, prayer calls and other initiatives to align with that.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
Daughter of a King is an unconventional Christian women’s ministry based in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. We’re “unconventional” because we exist outside the four walls of the church. Women of our ministry go to churches across the country but we wanted to create a safe space for women to learn about ways we can grow in Christ together.
Our vision is to remind women who they are in Jesus Christ and the inheritance that awaits them (1 Peter 1:3-5). We are “Daughter of a King” because the Bible tells us that we are members of a royal priesthood (1 Peter 2:9), meaning we’re royalty! If more women were aware of this reality, they would be bold in their faith, in their purpose and in their everyday lives.
Our mission is to REACH millennial women in the Washington, D.C area and beyond [in places like Atlanta] using the Bible as our guide to inspire, encourage and uplift our communities; TEACH one another about the life and power Jesus Christ so that we can be counter-cultural as He was during his lifetime; and UNLEASH our power as Daughters of the King out into the world as we walk in our calling and fulfill our greater purpose.
We’re more so honored than proud that God chose us for this unique calling. We are most honored that God has allowed us to reach women across the country, not just in our hometown. We use a two-pronged approach to expand our reach. Using social media tools (GroupMe, Instagram, YouTube, etc.) to connect us and good old fashion in-person gatherings to bind us together.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
We would say that Atlanta and really every city in the world is the perfect place for a ministry! We all need faith in our lives. It’s the foundation upon which we’re able to build everything else on. Atlanta has a strong population and with the significant amount of churches, we would bet there are people who are Christians or at least heard of Christians before! One woman that is doing a great job of ministry in Atlanta is Heather Lindsey and the Pinky Promise movement. We went to the Pinky Promise Conference a couple of years ago and had the best time connecting with women from all over who love Jesus.
