Meet Kelysha McCoy-Dennis of Synergy Creative Consulting in East Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelysha McCoy-Dennis.

Kelysha, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Since I was very young, I knew I wanted to be a photographer and that stuck with me well into middle school when I knew that overall I wanted to create art as my life long career. I began to teach myself graphic design, web coding and photography after school. That later developed into me creating graphics and doing photoshoots for my peers throughout college at Georgia Southern University, where I studied Digital Art & Design. Once I settled back into Atlanta, I began working with various musicians on the scene to provide content for their careers, which included creative direction, photography, graphic design and creative consulting as well. A lot of my creative background included creating cover art for artists, assisting on the sets of shoots, attending high-quality events, music festivals, getting the behind the scenes shots, creatively consulting and just overall being a helping hand in an artists creative journey. I’ve had the opportunity to work with many major artists, photographing or documenting their process and events and that has been the highlight of my creative career.

In 2017 I decided to shift my focus to not only artists but too small business owners since that’s what I was and that’s how Synergy Creative Consulting came to be. I offer one-on-one intuitive and creative insight for creatives that own small businesses and help them navigate making their goals for their businesses a reality in a creative way. I allow my clients to use me as a soundboard for how they personally want to brand and build their business creatively and walk with them every step of the way to provide insight and resources that will help them focus more on their business and not how they should be presenting their business because that is truly half of the work. My shift fits perfectly because of being an up and coming artist. You are also a small business owner! I enjoy being a resource in that way because not many people are willing to and have a creative background to do so. It took time for me to build myself and brand myself and I am constantly rebuilding and rebranding and to stay relevant that is a requirement. So why not have a mutual who is also a creative that understands the climate support you during that journey. That is what Synergy Creative Consulting is here for!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth road. When I first started as a creative in Atlanta, I was probably one or two of one of the only women heavy on the club scene doing club/concert photography. Being a woman creative during the time I chose to be that put me in really great spaces but it also made people question the validity of my work ethic and my contribution so a lot of things I had a hand in I really never received credit for. I never let that stop me though, I just chose to shift my focus and continued to commit to what made me happy which is creating.

Synergy Creative Consulting – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Synergy Creative Consulting is my new baby, before that I was “Key Perspective,” which consisted of me only providing services surrounding Photography & Graphic Design. Synergy offers a more polished and organized approach to my creative work, because not only do I still offer it, I offer it with a one on one interaction in mind. Getting to know my client, focusing on my client’s needs creatively and working closely with them to provide the attention they need creatively to feel confident in presenting their gift to the world.

A lot of people shy away from starting that creative business because they have no clue where to start or how to even present it to people. I try my best to eliminate that fear by being a creative myself that understands the ins & outs of that process.

I’m proud of my ability to evolve with every new client I encounter. I am always reminded that this is what I am good at because I make my clients feel heard and understood while they make sense of how to take control of their dreams. It’s my way of healing and helping people as a creative. It’s my understanding and my patience that sets me apart. Money is never my focus. It’s being sure that my clients feel confident in being presented in the light that they desire, the money will come.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
If you wake up and determine that you’re successful by your own goals and desires, then you are successful. Success measured by individuals external to you will always hold you back from being your authentic self.
