Meet Josh Solis of Soul Vegan Cuisine in East Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh Solis.

Josh, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
In 2009, I decided to go vegan after living most of my life as a vegetarian. I dedicated myself to delivering the message of love and compassion with soulful vegan cuisine. My secret to charming the most staunch meat-eaters with plant food is the harmony of multicultural flavors I infuse into each bite. My wholehearted love for my Cuban and Brazilian background inspires my innovation and sparks my curiosity for other ethnic cuisines. The goal is to merge cutting-edge artistry with traditional techniques.

Growing up, I ate a plant-based diet. If it was up to me, I would have lived off of peanut butter & jelly sandwiches. My household was vegetarian, so I still had some eggs, but I was lactose intolerant, so I drank soy milk. All of the plant-based milk alternatives from today were scarce at the time. My cooking curiosity was sparked by my grandfather, who was a chef in Cuba, and my stepfather. They both cooked wholesome and savory vegetarian and vegan meals. At the age of 12, I asked my grandfather to teach me vegetarian recipes. From then on, I worked to perfect my craft, evolving and drawing from new inspirations that influenced my diverse plant-based creations.

I attended Le Cordón Bleu for Culinary Arts in 1998-1999 and discontinued when I decided to stop cooking meat. In 2009 I received my certification from the Matthew Kenney Academy for Raw food. I co-founded Soul Vegan Cuisine in 2018 with my partner who manages the website and communications. Through Soul Vegan Cuisine, I offer virtual plant-based cooking classes, private chef services, and plant-based meal prep services.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s never smooth. It’s been high-risk financially and the amount of hours I’ve worked surpasses the regular 40-hour workweek.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Soul Vegan Cuisine – what should we know?
The mission of Soul Vegan Cuisine is to create plant food that inspires gratitude, connects cultures, and nourishes the soul as much as the body. Food is a gift we give to ourselves or to others to nourish and strengthen our bodies. Food should build vitality, and it should be enjoyed. For these reasons, our food is made with the intention to inspire gratitude. At soulvegancuisine.com, anyone in Atlanta can order plant-based meal prep services, private chef services, or virtual cooking classes.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
The most essential ingredient to my success has been hard work and integrity. This has allowed me to develop a compelling vision driven by a love-centered purpose: to inspire gratitude through plant food and encourage compassion toward oneself and others.
