Today we’d like to introduce you to Joanna Singleton.
Joanna, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My Dad is an entrepreneur. So, I always had a desire to be my own boss, especially after graduating from UGA and working retail management for 5 long years. I was searching for something that fit in better with my life and gave me more satisfaction. After some soul searching and lots of HGTV-watching, I decided to get my real estate license and here I am. It has been a long road, but I’ve never looked back and am grateful every day that I took the leap of faith to take on a new career and to be where I am today.
Has it been a smooth road?
It hasn’t always been smooth, but it’s easy to look toward the future and feel positive about what’s coming up. There’s a lot of pressure in real estate to meet deadlines and keep lots of different parties all on the same time frames. I feel like each transaction is like one of my babies and it’s my responsibility to watch that baby very carefully to be sure everything is moving in the right direction and the baby has everything that it needs.
The Atlanta real estate market is really crazy right now. We’ve been saying this for years, but it’s still true: there just is not enough inventory out there. Finding the right house isn’t easy and when you do find it, you cannot allow your client to get emotionally attached. Patience and innovative thinking are key…thinking outside the box never hurt either to really set yourself apart.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the My Cobb Homes with Atlanta Communities story. Tell us more about the business.
I specialize in the full customer experience. I am constantly reminding my clients to reach out if they need anything, which can be quite often. For my Buyers and Sellers, this process isn’t something they do every day, but for me it is. I create a calendar so everyone always knows what is coming up. For me, it’s like using a GPS, you don’t just want to know your next move, but your next 3 moves. Lack of communication can create a lot of anxiety so I always try to put myself in my client’s shoes and totally want to eliminate any feelings of confusion. I am most proud of my relationship with my clients.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Real estate is a crazy market, and just when you think you have it figured out or you know what’s coming up next, that’s when you’ll be wrong. Instead of trying to focus on predictions, I feel the concept of adaption is more crucial to this industry.
I don’t see any huge changes on my horizon, just more of the same. Fostering relationships and learning from each transaction to make the next that much smoother.
When I think of my future, I think of my kids. My husband, Jeff, and I have Max (3) and Audrey (1). They are our world and while they don’t always fit perfectly into my busy schedule… The day I gave birth to Audrey, I had a closing at 4 pm and was headed to the hospital at 9 pm… These two are the reason I do what I do.
