Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany White.
Tiffany, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
We started in 2013. My now husband & I hadn’t even started dating yet. I had sent him some salsa that I made and he kept telling me, “That needs to be on a store shelf”. Fast forward a few months & we were dating. His dream has always to have a roadside farm to table kind of stand. So I made the comment that maybe I could share my salsa, jams & jellies. We started setting up at a local restaurant in town for their Saturday Farmers Market. Then it went from there. The next year – we tried a couple of festivals. It has been a lot of trial & error.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There have been several trials & errors along the way. A lot of “we are never doing that again” or “we have got to make that an annual thing. We have learned about what not to do and what we can do. It has been fun. It has been hard. It has been rewarding. We have met so many people along the way who have encouraged us. Built us up. Helped us out. Told us we were doing it wrong and things we were doing right.
Lazy Goat Produce – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We sell seasonal veggies. We have all the old fashion favorites. Corn, okra, squash, zucchini, a variety of tomatoes, many kinds of peppers. We have several fruit plants. Figs, raspberries, blackberries, pear trees, etc. We have a plethora of jams, jellies, preserves that we do. We are best known for our Sissy Goat’s Strawberry Lime Jam. We won a cook-off with it. We have people who order jars & jars of it when it is in stock. They make sure to stock up while we have it in stock. We pride ourselves on having quality products. All handmade. We have toyed with the idea of a co-packer, but I just can’t do that to our customers. They expect a handmade product that comes from the heart. We may be small – but we come with something special that you can’t get anywhere.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
We can always get bigger by giving up some of the “personal things” we do with LGP. But success to me in “our world” is when folks choose you over anyone else when they bypass the big guys to buy yours. When folks tell someone about “the best jam in the world!” When folks wait a few months to get your strawberry lime… just b/c, it is the best. We provide the best customer service you can get anywhere. Our criteria for all our Goaters (what we call our followers) is we treat them like we expect to be treated.
