Today we’d like to introduce you to William Martin.
William, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have always been in a situation that required me to work hard to survive and fight for things I want. After having two vital organs replaced in 2002, I was able to begin my career. I was hired by local the NBC affiliate in Savannah right after I graduated college in 2004. I stayed there working in several production roles until 2017. In that time, I met people and gained skills. Both of these factors proved valuable once I decided to start my own business. I had a healthy network of people to call and a good skill set to start producing content for clients in my multimedia endeavor.
While my entrepreneurial venture doesn’t pay all the bills, I find fulfillment in my 9 to 5. In 2011 I dropped down to a part-time role with the NBC affiliate and began a full-time role with Savannah State University, the oldest HBCU in the state of Georgia. I currently operate as the program director of television operations for the department of Journalism and Mass Communications and an adjunct professor.
I also take pride in my passion for filmmaking. I directed an award-winning documentary film about Georgia state representative Carl Gilliard and his family as they turned their own trials and tribulations into an organization that has fed thousands of people in Georgia. I was honored for my filmmaking effort in Georgia State House Resolution 661. I come to seek freelance opportunities in film and add film credits to my resume.
Has it been a smooth road?
Long story short… It has never been a smooth road. I feel like the universe has made me fight for everything, but I wouldn’t change it. Having to fight, scratch and claw for everything have taught me to appreciate every bit of success. I have had to overcome organ replacement, financial challenges, setbacks of all kinds. I’ve been at points where I have literally lost everything and had negative numbers in all my accounts. It is very true when they say that no one talks about their failures because I write a book about mine. I could write several books to be honest.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Seriousways Multimedia – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Seriousways Multimedia has been my dream since I started in TV, film, and radio. I always wanted to be an entrepreneur. I learned early in my career how media can used to hold the powerful accountable, give voices to the voiceless, make real change in the community. These ideals are what I envisioned my multimedia company being for my community. Give people a means and expertise to tell their stories and disseminate it to a large audience.
Seriousways Multimedia has served clients from all walks of life and works with budgets of any size with the same guarantees of quality and service. My company has worked with clients such as the Frank Callen Boys and Girls Club, King Tisdell Cottage Foundation/Beach Institute, and churches like Connors Temple and St. Paul CME.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the city of Atlanta. Atlanta is the heartbeat of Georgia. Every opportunity you can imagine can be made a reality in Atlanta. I live in Savannah, but being successful in my career and business would not be possible without running a business through Atlanta and expanding my network in the city of Atlanta.
I don’t feel there is anything to dislike about Atlanta. Every place is what you make of it. No matter where you are, there are opportunities to be found. It is up to you to seize the moment and take advantage of the opportunities presented. Even though in some situations, you may have looked a little harder to find the opportunities.
