Today we’d like to introduce you to Hitesh Patel.
Hitesh, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Photography came to me when my son was born. At the time, I was using the iPhone 3 and was not happy with image I took with the iPhone. So I started to look into photography and discovered my true passion in life. Create images that you can be proud to print and hang on your wall. Since then, I learned different methods to take images. Learned what I can do with adding additional light. Practice photographing family, friend and then as I grew more eager to be better at creating photos, I started to do model/fashion shoot.
It wasn’t until just a few years ago that you can make a living doing this, and thus, how I got into doing weddings. Despite that, I am fairly new at photographing weddings, but skills are surpassed the amount of years one would need to be a professional wedding photographer. I shoot weddings not because I enjoy them, but because how creative I can be in one place. I can do portraits, details, landscape and even be a bit creative with lighting. Plus the joy I get from the couples who see my images are just priceless!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, the road hasn’t been a pleasant journey. When I first got started in wedding photography, I covered four weddings and three of them was Asian Indian Wedding. Which I had to work for free because the lead photographer said: “I don’t get anything from training”. I spend four weekends working in Atlanta, GA, spending over 18 hours just to get some experiences. Plus, I was yelled at when I didn’t know what I was supposed to do.
It was just a bad experience I wish no new photographer ever runs into. He was a bad photographer to work under. But I never gave up on becoming a wedding photographer. My passion still stays with me despite what I have been through. I am very grateful that my desire to become a well known, a creative wedding photographer is bigger then the small dips I went through in this journey.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
Hitesh Patel Photography specializes in wedding photography by photographing couples, events in a natural, candid style. You do not have to be great at posing to get amazing naturally looking image. My strongest aspect in photography is how I make my couples pose during a session. You’re not standing like this, and like that with me. In fact, you are being yourself in front of me. In order to get a certain posing, I make you act out a scene so that it looks natural. Lots of couples tell me that my style is very laid back and relaxing. It seems like they are there just to hang out and not a photo session.
My images make me proud, the way I capture the way I edit them. BTW, I edit all my images just because I am never happy with others editing my vision!
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
You need to know what couples are looking today. Remember the couples that are getting married today are a lot younger, and knows when a photo is ok, or “holy cow! That’s amazing”. Yes, there are people out there who just take photos, but I go beyond that. I want to make something for them that they would be proud to print and hang on their wall. You also need to be more relax and chilled. No longer is it required to be professional. Just be yourself and you will be success. Time has changed, and it’s time to be yourself to get noticed today.
