Meet Casey Cooper of The Compass Circle in Metro

Today we’d like to introduce you to Casey Cooper.

Casey, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My journey began at 15 years old. I pleaded with an older man from my neighborhood to let me rent some vending machines from him. At 20, I opened a shoe store. At 25, I purchased my very first Dump Truck. By 35, I was divorced with two children. I’m now 39 years old, and have been awarded almost six Million Dollars in Contracts in the last three years! What a journey!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road has NEVER been smooth. In fact, what is SMOOTH?! I am almost embarrassed to admit it, but it’s been more difficult than easy. Trial after Trial. Challenge after challenge. Trucks going down, drivers calling out, cash flow not flowing! You name it! I was almost expectant of issues until I changed my MIND on what I was expecting. Just in the last few years has it began to smooth out. There are still small situations that arise, but overall the waters are calm.

Please tell us about The Compass Circle.
I am a Federal Contractor. I specialize in Transportation Projects for The Government. As a Woman-Owned, 8a Company, I am most proud of the fact that I got here completely on my own. Federal Contracting is virtually unheard of by Minority Companies, yet its the most lucrative way to ensure business success. What sets me apart is the fact that I’m a Double Minority, working for the largest customer in the world. I am most proud that we Consult to other Woman-owned and Minority Companies to help them do the same. Paying it forward is my most honorable mention.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start all over, I would have started off Contracting directly to the Government, instead of trying to build a business brick by brick, customer by customer. Small Business makes the world go around. Unfortunately, a lot of us are not using certain disadvantages as advantages. We are not working smarter, but harder!
