Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Berry.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Courtney. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Hello! Thank you for having me. I guess I’d have to give most of the credit to my family. My parents have always fostered creativity. My father, a jeweler, my Mother, an artist, and my sisters studied Arts in college and now pursue careers in fine Jewelry stores in Georgia. I also love to design and create, although I chose a different career path. I started in the service industry at a young age, initially bartending and have now worked my way into the Special Events Industry. Still craving that creative outlet, I began repurposing empty bottles from events, and that was the beginning of Bar Toppers.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like all things in life, it comes with challenges. I maintain a full time job and also have a family, so when it gets busy, it gets crazy. Time management is important. I try to stay organized and scheduled.
Please tell us about Bar Toppers.
Bar Topper’s goal is to give what would otherwise be trash, a second life. We are a custom glass cutting company. Everything cut by hand, in my garage. This means, every piece I make is truly unique. We take empty bottles, whether it be from someone’s special occasion, or simply their favorite drink, and give it new life by cutting it and turning it into a planter or scented soy candle.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I had the privilege of growing up on a 22 acre farm in East Cobb. My dad had a wonderful shop that I always found myself tinkering in, he would say snooping around in. I used to love watching him make custom jewelry pieces. If he accidently dropped one, I could find the smallest stones in the dust at his feet. My mother used to paint the murals for Media Play and our school book fairs. I remember being so proud of my parents, and their masterpieces, whether in metal, jewelry or paint.
