Today we’d like to introduce you to April Scott.
April, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was born and raised in Birmingham. In 2016, I moved to Nashville, TN, to began my career as an educator. I am currently a Special Education Teacher here in Nashville. The two biggest passion in my life is education and writing. I love learning, teaching, and advocating! Those particular passions came from my grandfather and my aunt Carrie. At an early age, my grandfather and aunt Carrie instilled in me how important having an education was and to always fight for it. My aunt Carrie, in particular, helped deepen those passions. She was also a teacher and writer. I remember having countless conversations with her throughout my childhood and adulthood of how one day, I would follow in her footsteps. Unfortunately, in 2015 she passed away, just one year before everything that we had discussed would be manifested. The following year, 2016, I began my first job in education, and I launched my blog website, Production 139. My aunt, and honestly, my family, in general, are the reason I go as hard as do to achieve everything God has for me in my life!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Absolutely, not!! I have taken so many hits to my faith, my confidence, and my identity throughout my life, especially during college. My whole college experience was a massive mental health and identity battle. In 2014, when I had begun blogging, I hid a massive part of my identity from my audience. I was in an extremely mentally and emotionally abusive relationship with a guy that I had been with since I was 19. That relationship drained every part of my identity as a woman and as a Christian. In December 2015, the relationship FINALLY ended after five years of infidelity and mental/emotional abuse. A few months later, in February 2016, I moved to Nashville, TN, to honestly, start my life over and begin the life that I knew God had for me.
This journey has not been easy, and my past has not been pretty. I have given up so many times on my passion and purpose, but God has always reignited the fire back in me. I’ve learned to embrace the good, bad, the ugly, the wins, the losses; they have all contributed to the woman that I am today—a woman who is no longer afraid to be who God has called her to be.
Please tell us about Production139.
In 2016, I launched my official blog site, Production 139. I came up with the name Production 139 from Psalms 139:14, where it states that “I am fearfully and wonderfully made”. Production 139 represents a community of uplifting and honoring women at every stage of their life. The blogs that are published through this site are intended to help women feel like they are not alone in this world and journey through life. What I am most proud of as the owner of this blog site is the amazing feedback that I’ve gotten from women all over about how one or two of my blogs as helped them on their own journey to find themselves. We are all products God, and He made us fearfully and wonderfully, thus the goal of Production 139 is to remind young women of just that.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I honestly wouldn’t say that I have luck (good or bad). Everything I do is only by God’s grace and his favor. My brand is intended for me to display my authentic self. I believe that alone brings the exact people who need to be around me during each season.
