Meet Kizra Deon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kizra Deon.

Kizra, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am Kizra Deon and I am an actor currently living in GA, however, born and raised in Miami, FL in the heart of Liberty City. My journey as an actor started when my mother put me in an Arts Summer Camp (African Heritage Cultural Arts Center) at the age of seven just to keep me busy during the summer, who knew that would be the change of my life. I excelled in Musical Theater, Theater, Dance, I played the flute and clarinet and so much more, but for some reason, Theater took my heart. I remember my very first lead role at a young age was ‘Daughter’ in Shay Youngblood’s stage play “Shakin The Mess Outta Misery” I learned so many lines in such a short time and even my Acting teacher couldn’t believe how disciplined and prepared I was being so young.

I never lost that passion for acting. I went on to compete in several Oratorical contests in elementary and middle school and won. In high school, I auditioned for the PAVAC (Performing and Visual Arts Center) Program and was accepted and the love and passion took off from there. My mom saw my passion and talent and immediately put me in private Acting classes and got me an Agent. My junior year in high school, I won the title of Ms. Junior and the day of our school parade, my mom got a call from my agency, they had an audition for me for an Old Navy commercial. I was on the float in the parade, my mom snatched me off the float and we immediately left to go to the audition! That’s when I knew things were serious for me.

Moving forward, it wasn’t until about 2 1/2 years ago, after putting acting on the back burner for years, that I realized that this is my true and ordained calling, gift, talent and passion. I picked up my three-year-old son last year and all of our things, packed up a U-Haul truck and moved to ATL to pursue my dream in Acting. With little help and no family here initially, just my son and I and constant adversity meeting determination and purpose, I can say my Acting career is finally coming through the tunnel and blossoming well. I currently star in a YouTube Web Series called “To Each His Own” with ANPU Productions and there is so much more where that came from. ATL is the place to be for the opportunity and I’m glad my journey led me here.

Has it been a smooth road?
Wheww!!! It has not always been smooth. I dealt with the death of a child, two failed marriages and a period of contemplating what I really should have been doing in my life. I went to Nursing school for LPN after my first son passed away in 2012 and discovered that wasn’t for me. I was really living a trial and error lifestyle, not knowing what way to go, where to start, what to end. I was a mess and there was a lot of stress on my journey.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am an actor. I like to say actor vs actress because an actor has no limits, an actress can only be referred to a woman who acts. I am limitless and can’t be tamed. I am known for talent and love for The Arts. I start in a YouTube series “To Each His Own” under ANPU Productions amongst many theater Stage plays, Films, Series, etc. to name a few. I also love The Art of Dancing. I have always had a second love for it. Musical Theater will always have my heart. The fact that I am me and can only bring ME sets me apart from others because there can and will only be 1 ME!

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
By that time I am hoping and praying that the world has met a new and better normal after this Covid-19 crisis. So for the Acting industry, I do believe that all auditions will continue to be Self-tapes more than ever. I see many Acting classes and workshops shifting to being Online or people will be given a choice to go in the class or online. I see more projects with quicker turnaround times for shooting And editing because, during these times, many people have learned new skills, perfected current skills and just became well versed all the way around.
