Today we’d like to introduce you to Shauna Brown.
Shauna, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve always had a love for hair, and even growing up I always wanted to try different hairstyles. Once I was old enough to start paying to go to the hair salon, I took full advantage lol. I started going to the hair salon every two weeks in high school. I wore my first weave for senior prom and that is where it all began. My love for hair weaves and extensions blossomed from there. Luckily for me, one of my closest friends was able to install my extensions, so that was super convenient and helped save me a lot of money. In 2018 just a few months after I had my daughter, I was trying to figure out what to do with my hair. It was warm weather and as an African American woman doing my natural hair during the warm seasons is NOT fun. I began my hunt for some quality hair extensions that weren’t going to break the bank. That is where the struggle came in and I had the idea to start my own hair company. Luxcys Hair Co was born in the fall of 2018.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It definitely has NOT been a smooth road and I’m not afraid to admit that. I may have been a little naive about what I thought really went into running a business. The new popular thing that some established entrepreneurs like to say is they started their business with no money or a certain amount of money and to me that just really creates a false narrative to some people who may really believe that they can have zero dollars and start a business and trust me that is not the case. You definitely have to spend money to make money and that’s a fact. There are a lot of highs and a lot of lows in business and I know with hard work and serious dedication, my brand will be successful.

Luxcys Hair Co specializes in virgin human hair extensions. We offer a variety of textures and lengths and we also offer lace wigs. We are known for having great quality hair and excellent customer service. I am proud of the fact that my customers always love their hair and feel good, plus they are always satisfied with the customer service that they receive. What sets my brand apart from others is that I truly care about the customer. I want to make sure that I do everything in my power to ensure that all of my customers have a great purchasing experience. It’s not just about selling hair as it is with many other hair extensions companies. Instead, it’s about a lifestyle and feeling good plus being confident in yourself.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I would say I was actually kind of shy. Now my middle school and elementary school teachers may say otherwise because I can recall always being the student that liked to talk lol. But I enjoyed hanging out with my family and friends and I was in a lot of extracurricular activities from swim lessons to playing basketball to Girl Scouts to dance team I pretty much did it all.
