Today we’d like to introduce you to Davon Clark.
Davon, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was working behind the scenes in the entertainment industry in NY and CA. After several years of hard work and garnishing accolades from small festivals to 2 NAACP Image Awards for the work I contributed to on TV One’s hit docu-series UnSung and more. I realized that what I was doing did not have a direct impact on what I ultimately wanted to do. That is when I decided to leave the entertainment industry and embark on my true path.
I shifted my focus and career towards the educational field. During this time, I realized the educational system needed more interactive academic components to its curriculum, particularly in the urban schools and juvenile youth facilities, where I worked. Moving into a new age of how people are learning, I decided to create ADC Kid. From there, I started traveling to different schools doing live interactive performances, conducting juvenile youth expressive arts and literacy workshops, formed a Children’s Book Festival, created diverse author events with non-profits, Barnes & Noble stores and more.
Paying attention to where the youths’ eyes were shifting (which was social media), I then developed a card game called ‘Verified,’ which is a party game based on social media. This game truly formed out of me trying to find different interactive strategies and tools to do with the youth, particularly the juvenile youth I work with. I wanted to meet them where they were at. That just so happened to be on social media. That was the spark to creating this fun party game ‘Verified.’
Has it been a smooth road?
It has not always been a smooth road. Coming from a family where no one has ever started a business, I had to experience a lot of firsts all alone.
Some of the struggles along the way included changing the name of the company from DC Kids to ADC Kid. This was done after finding out that DC Comics owned the domain to DC Kids, so instead of fighting a lawsuit, we figured it would be best to change the name. Another struggle was developing a proper business plan that made sense for where we wanted to take the company. And, of course, finding the proper marketing/advertising to help propel the business forward.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with ADC Kid – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
ADC Kid stands for A Davon Clark Kid. ADC Kid currently provides the author of color programs, interactive literacy storytelling performances, expressive arts and literacy workshops for incarcerated youth, children’s books, media content (animation and live-action) and games (cards). ADC Kid is particularly known for its literacy sector. However, we are now integrating more of our gaming component to the company.
We have launched our first card game called ‘Verified,’ A Party Game for Social Media Lovers. The object of the game is to be the first player to collect 50K Followers and 50K Likes to win. The cards have five categories on them- Social Media, Hashtags, CatchPhrases, Challenges and Viral Sensations. Each game set comes with 116 cards, one buzzer (to comment with to answer the question or do challenges), four instructional cards and 30 score sheets.
The proudest moment is seeing smiles on people’s faces and knowing that ADC Kid did that. What sets ADC Kid apart from others is creating interactive, fun and bonding moments between family and friends that will last for a lifetime.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I like best about Atlanta is the plethora of events one can go to, to get exposure for their business as far as what I least like about Atlanta is the traffic. I just wish there was less traffic in the city.
