Today we’d like to introduce you to Raymone J.
Raymone, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’m a photographer & videographer originally from Stone Mountain. I didn’t grow up with any type of interest in photography or anything camera related at all. It wasn’t until my Junior year at Kennesaw State that one of my professors showed me how enjoyable and rewarding a career in media and entertainment could be. Before that, I was basically in limbo with no clear idea of what I wanted to do. I learned the fundamentals of photo & video and started shooting on my own. I began renting camera gear and taking it everywhere with me, volunteering to shoot everything for free. When I saw how much my skill improved compared to when I first started, I started doing more and charging more. Now I shoot everything from headshots and portraits to weddings and corporate events.
Has it been a smooth road?
It’s not always completely smooth and I don’t think it ever will be. I definitely struggled in the beginning when I was in school full time, working full time, and still trying to find time to shoot. Camera gear isn’t cheap at all, so saving money for lenses, lights, etc. was also a struggle. There are so many different avenues you can take a photography career. Finding a specific one and sticking to it is another struggle. I don’t want to just specialize in portraits or weddings. I want to shoot real estate, commercials, and food photography too. But just like any other career, there’s always something trying to hold you back. But if you love it enough, you won’t let it stop you from getting things done.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am a full-service photographer and videographer. I shoot visuals for just about anything you can think of. I specialize in finding a way to make my clients happy. Whether I’m booked to shoot photos at a baby shower or to shoot a drone video of commercial real estate property, I do whatever it takes to satisfy my clients.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see the visual media industry as a whole continuing to grow in the future, just like it has in the past. I’m very optimistic about future industry opportunities. Brands need captivating photos and videos to promote their products. Couples need beautiful visuals for weddings. Realtors need clean, sharp, professional visuals for their properties. On top of that, the technology in cameras and lenses will continue to improve and the world will always need professionals who know how to use it.
