Today we’d like to introduce you to Lily Andemariam.
Lily, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I moved from Ethiopia about 20 years ago. When my family moved to the states, it was very important to them that I have the best resources and opportunities to live a happy, successful life. I took that dream very seriously. I went to college in Ohio and started my corporate career just a week after graduating. Four years later, I decided to move to California and get into tech. With a Marketing and International Business undergrad degree, I wasn’t sure how I was going to be able to enter a thriving tech industry. After much research and conversation with those in the industry, I decided to join the tech field through product management. Now, as part of Product South, I help people understand the various opportunities they have to enter and evolve in Tech.
Has it been a smooth road?
There is nothing smooth about life. There are so many things that come up. From personal losses to two job layoffs and closing my first startup to leaving my home country for better opportunities, I have lost and gained a lot. That doesn’t stop me from keep going through.
Please tell us about Product South.
The mission of Product South is to create a centralized, supportive, and diverse tech ecosystem that uplifts one another through mentorship, networking, events and more, in collaboration with experts in the industry.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Atlanta is quickly becoming one of the hubs for tech and the startup world. There are so many great colleges and universities as well. If someone wants to get into tech, I would definitely recommend they consider ATL.
