Today we’d like to introduce you to Christin Owens.
Christin, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Well, I was born in Muscle Shoals, a very small town in Alabama. My mother (Syreeta Ziegler) later moved me and my brother (Christopher Owens) to the south side of Atlanta in the Clayton county area. A few years later, we moved up north to Alpharetta. As a teen, I was always a very active kid. I participated in many sports, from volleyball to basketball, to cheer. I was even in musical theater in my junior and senior year of High school. After graduating class of 2016, I enrolled in the University of West Georgia, though these are accomplishments they all came with trials. I was a very chubby teen. I come from a very thick family, So I have always struggled with weight insecurities, self-esteem issues, and confidence problems.
During my senior year of high school and around my freshman year of college, I hit my peak weight I was a whopping 290 pounds I hit a newfound low during that portion of my life, and at that moment I knew I had to make a change. So I got to work, I started to create a plan. I worked out constantly and consistently changed my eating habits and sooner than I expected, I went from 290 to 240 to 179. I am now currently a senior at the University of Alabama, the founder and CEO of ShapedByMacayla. ShapedByMacayla focuses on more than just shaping someone’s waist. We’re focused on shaping the person inside of that many think that losing weight starts with a workout routine when in all actuality, it starts with YOU! You can’t start a new journey with an old mindset things that you allowed your self to do in the past isn’t going to benefit you in the future you are now creating. I guess my ultimate goal is to show others that even when the odds are stacked against you, there is still a silver lining. You can always turn your dreams into a reality your reality.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being taunted and teased, bullied, a ton of insecurities, self-esteem issues, confidence problems, being sexually assaulted, from being an outsider at a predominantly black school, to actually being an outsider at a predominantly white school, depression and so on.
ShapedByMacayla – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
ShapedByMacayla specializes in shapewear, such as waist trainers, clothing, swimwear, and my personal weight loss guide. My weight loss guide is actually my top seller it includes a personalized food plan, workout plan, and links, pictures, and a few discount codes for things that I personally used during my journey.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment would actually be dropping my website, that was something that took a lot of time, hard work, and money. Also, it was something I always said I wanted to do and never did it, so for me to finally go through with it made me extremely proud.
