Today we’d like to introduce you to Altregia Jordan.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Altregia. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I can still remember that day. I was a scared 27-year-old mother. I didn’t have a college degree. I was penniless and still trying to adjust to the fact that I had four little girls to raise on my own. I was sitting in court for my divorce hearing. I thought, “How in the world did I get here?” After the divorce, I begin to spiral down to a low place. The shame was overwhelming, I lost myself, and my confidence and I even lost some friends.
But, God! I discovered my purpose in the midst of my deepest pain. That was when the idea to do nails came to me. It was a God idea! At that time, I was working a full time job. I was receiving a steady income. But I knew I wanted better for my daughters and myself. So, I enrolled in nail school and turned in my two weeks’ notice. It didn’t take long to discover that I had a passion for the nail industry. I loved helping others feel beautiful! After finishing school, I managed to save enough money to open my very own nail salon. In 1994, I opened the first black-owned nail salon in Newnan, Georgia. I named it Elegance Nails. 15 years later, I met my wonderful husband, sold the salon and moved to Washington, D.C.
That’s when I decided to transition into life coaching. As a life coach, I get to share my life experiences and the knowledge I’ve gained to help others discover their strength to keep moving forward. I get so much joy in helping others find their true happiness through authenticity and forgiveness; especially self-forgiveness. In the process of reclaiming my identity, I realized the importance of having a positive mindset. I believe our thoughts and words are powerful.
My book, Created to Shine, 21 Days to a Better You, will help you learn how to shift your thoughts and words to create the reality you want. This is one thing I know for sure; real change starts on the inside.
I’m also the founder and host of the annual Created To Shine Conference, a women’s empowerment conference. My motto is “Get Over It, Forgive Yourself” I’m so grateful for all that God has trusted me with. Out of all of my blessings, my greatest has been my four daughters, whom I raised as a single mom. They are four black successful women doing very well in life. They are my constant reminders of how great our God is. Whatever you do; don’t stay stuck, keep moving forward. You must press past your pain to fulfill your purpose. Today, I choose to live life to the fullest!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No! Public Speaking! My thinking guided my decisions, it took me years before I would even consider speaking in public, the fear of failure paralyzed me. But I decided to face my fear by a joining a toastmaster’s club. And then it happened. I finally did it, scared to death, I competed and won first place all the way up to the district level.
