Today we’d like to introduce you to Candice Lawton.
Candice, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I recently started this business during the COVID-19 pandemic. I have always had a passion for fashion, from clothes to shoes to accessories. I am very passionate about making other women feel good about themselves and fashion helps with that. Due to the pandemic I had extra time to pour myself into this new business. It wasn’t easy either. Especially because I have another crafting business which is Jane of Everything and this is a custom crafts business. I started this business because I am good with my hands and I have a very creative mind. My thought was that maybe I should start making money off the crafts since people were already asking me to help them out with different projects anyway.
Has it been a smooth road?
This road hasn’t been smooth at all. I have had to deal with people scamming me as well as a lack of support. I have gotten scammed from various vendors; some I haven’t even been able to get my back from yet. A lack of support can cause a person to give up on their dreams but those who do genuinely support me, encourage me to keep going, so I will!
Please tell us about the business.
House of Jane Fashions is an online boutique specializing in accessories which include jewelry, handbags and shoes. I also plan to add plus size clothing eventually once I draw in more attention to the brand. I am originally known for my other company Jane of Everything which specializes in custom items such as shirts, birthday pins and custom bling sneakers. As a company I am most proud of the fact that I can multitask with both company’s and I remain equally passionate about both. What sets me apart is my customer service. My ultimate goal for both of my companies is to make my customers feel appreciated. I want to make them have a special experience with both companies and I don’t want them to feel taken advantage of. I greatly appreciate everyone who shops with me because they could have easily taken their business elsewhere.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I like most about our city is that everyone is taking advantage of the opportunity to become a boss. I like the way our people are opening these black businesses and capitalizing off of these opportunities. What I hate is the lack of support. Support seems to be based on popularity and that isn’t fair because the less popular people seem to have more value for the customers. Hopefully in the coming months this change and everyone is supported in the way they want to.
