Today we’d like to introduce you to JaMarius Jelks.
JaMarius, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Hey, my name is JaMarius T. Jelks I’m from Decatur, IL by the way of St. Louis. For the last ten years I have been living in St. Louis. I moved there in 2009 to play basketball at Webster University. The next year I transferred to the University of Missouri-STL where I graduated and received my degree in psychology. I decided to stay in Saint Louis after I established a great network and support system. During my time in Saint Louis I joined a few organizations and started my own companies, which created new opportunities for me to experience life on another level and I was a recipient of a 30 under 30 award. I also became a photographer/videographer out of need of more black male faces in the industry in Saint Louis. But also to be able to build a platform for others to be able to express themselves without any judgment. #WeJustLivin is my lifestyle brand, which I created for that reason. But not only for them but for me as well. The goal is to inspire others to be their best self. I loved seeing others making their dreams come true and if I can help, that’s a bonus. In 2018 I became a life coach for youth ages 16-24. I was how I started my journey into this new life of commitment to myself and my goals. And once I found out you’re the only one who can stop yourself… I became unstoppable!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Not at all! I went through a depression in 2017 because I thought I needed everybody that I supported to support me. I was broke with no job. But then I took some time out to plan my life and go back to the basics. Also learning what to invest in and how much to invest to make it make sense. However once I started using my network the right way then everything became much more simpler. But you need the low times to teach you how to bounce back and also pass the message along.
#WeJustLivin – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
#WeJustLivin is a lifestyle first and foremost. We do have an apparel line and jewelry like watches and necklaces. Since our launching, we’ve hosted events that help out the community and our audiences so they can express themselves through art and self-awareness. We are known for inspiring others to live out their dreams, just like how we do! We create content out of necessity of what the culture needs and wants.
