Today we’d like to introduce you to Chrissy Howell.
Chrissy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My name is Chrissy Howell. I am 28 years old from Huntsville, Al. I’ve always been a crafty person. You know very D.I.Y. I am not the type to lie and say I started this business because I had skin issues or something like that. I actually was blessed with good skin. But my fiancé on the other hand has psoriasis and I wanted to make him something natural to help the flaking. After family and friends heard about what I was doing, they began to ask if I could make other products to help with their unique skin issues; and thus, Decadent Aesthetics was born.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest obstacle I had to overcome was myself. I knew this was what I was supposed to be doing. I knew this business was going to help a lot of people. And I knew that I had a strong support system, but I was apprehensive to take that ”jump” or “leap of faith,” however you choose to look at it.
Another major challenge was incorporating aesthetics into my business. Becoming an esthetician was hard work. I attended the Aveda Institute in Hoover, Al. I drove 1.5 hours one way to school for nine months along with keeping my business going.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Decadent Aesthetics – what should we know?
Decadent Aesthetics is all about enriching, enhancing and feeding your skin. We started in 2017 and didn’t know if people would even be interested in what we had to offer. I am glad to say business has grown tremendously over the past three years. We manufacture various products that all play an individual part in revitalizing one’s skin. We specialize in all-natural soaps, oils, and lotions. Other specialties are in aromatics like bath bombs and shower steamers. We are known for having high quality products, good customer service and being knowledgeable and transparent about ingredients that go into our products. As stated before, I am a licensed esthetician so we also provide services such as facials, waxing and more.
I am most proud of the support that the business has encountered, we went form practically no sales three years ago to essentially selling out every time we have a release now.
I feel as though my company is different from most others in the same field because I take care of the body’s skin as a whole. Everything from cleansing to moisturizing to waxing. No disrespect to any other soap or aesthetic company out there. Most focus on one area, and they mastered it and are ABSOLUTELY killing it! But I just went a slightly different direction to set my company apart.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I would have to say my strongest quality would have to be my tenacity. I am super determined almost to the border line of obsession sometimes. For example, I worked for almost two years just to perfect one liquid soap recipe to my specific requirements. Once I have my eyes set on a goal, I don’t just aim to meet it — I want to crush it.
