Today we’d like to introduce you to Trey Lawson.
Trey, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Born and raised in Atlanta GA, I’ve always somehow been around or in the music scene even in high school interning for different high profile studios in Atlanta such as DJ drama, penthouse studios, and the outfit studio to give examples under the mentorship of Terry scheist skywalker he introduced me to the game early on I eventually moved to middle/south GA (Macon area) where I begin working alongside the radio stations and Dj’s such as DJ Frosty and DJ smooth and radio personality Tex James hosting events learning more about the art and culture of music fast forward in time I move back to Atlanta year 2017 where I begin producing and engineering full time wherein within a year I landed my first major placement which was DJ Luke nasty (artist of hit songs might be & on the way). And due to hardwork and long nights I begin working with more and more clients leaving a trademark of sound in each project as the list of clients and placements grew so did the name and brand Trey Lawson starting the company Break’N Sound where independent artist such as myself can grow and benefit from our crafts working for ourselves and owning our catalogs.
Has it been a smooth road?
One of the craziest things to see is someone you look up to, or for better words, someone whose career inspires you and God Crosses your paths with these ppl and they would have like the worst personalities.
You’re going to hear no a lot. You miss out of a lot of personal life. A lot of ppl won’t see your vision and they won’t mind trying to persuade you how crazy you sound. I’ve even tried to help a peer along the way and he literally almost cost me my life and not because of risk but he legit told the courts and police that I was the guy they were looking for right Ik shit deep yea I was dead helping dude and he tried setting me up but shit happens. I’ve also been burned in the industry being ignorant to the business (not getting paid for records I’ve produced or not getting proper credit for work, of course, I got played in a lot of deals but with time comes lessons and experience. Just learn from them.
Please tell us about Break’N Sound Productions.
Break’N Sound prod covers a lot of ground. We limit outside cost that most labels would have for expenses everything is done by us for us we write and sell songs. And also produce instrumentals for the artist we pretty much cover all the grounds (ea: studio, engineers, producers, all in house and what’s makes me most proud is we own everything we do and we’re allowed full rights to our craft that we hold so dearly and I’m even more so proud of the fact that we’ve been blessed to have constant business and projects being completed thru the company.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I’ve always been one to learn to form my elders and those who come before me and that being said I’m greatly inspired by the success of Coach K and P over at QC (quality control) and also a close friend Johnathan Carter (CEO of Mudnoc studios). But I feel like soon more and more artist will be independently pursuing their careers as oppose to so eagerly seeking out record deals I see the industry being limitless and parasite free more indies because the talent is there it’s the business part that screws most times that being said I look forward to the growth of my company as far as an artist we represent and the actual capabilities of the company being able to help and push the artist the best way possible rather it’s financially marketing, and even breaking new artist!! The Name is Break’ N Sound. Break’N sound barriers while Break’N new sounds.
