Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashanti Richardson and Jasmine Olivia.
Ashanti and Jasmine, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Ashanti started the podcast a few months before she reached out to social media in search of a co-host. There was a missing piece to the show and that’s where Jasmine came into the picture. Jasmine saw Ashanti’s post on Twitter and they set up a date to meet at a local coffee shop. The connection was instant. From that moment, Girl Guess What Podcast was born again and they’ve been creating content ever since December 2018. Today, the two have been taking over the Magic City podcast scene one stunt and shenanigan at a time. Their episodes are reminiscent of girl’s night-in, complete with current events, celebrity trash talk, wine and subject matter that includes everything from mental health to men and relationships.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We have definitely had some struggles along the way. We both have full-time jobs, kids, and other obligations, so managing to find time to record weekly was something we had to really push to stay committed to. Also, neither one of us has any background in audio editing, so learning to produce a quality show was something we had to work through as well. Girl Guess What Podcast is still relatively new, so we’re sure this won’t be the last of things we have to push through.
Girl Guess What Podcast – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are so proud of the growth we’ve seen within the past year and a half. Our listener base is expanding as well as our opportunities. Most importantly, we are so proud of ourselves for taking the first step to creating something with our names on it. What sets us apart is that we are not the typical podcast. Two young, black women from Alabama bring two different perspectives together to create conversations that many of us can’t have in certain circles. You’ll be educated. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry all in the same episode from us.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The longevity. We’ve been at this for almost two years now and we’re still going. We don’t make any money from doing this podcast YET, but we still commit to creating and making sure we are consistent is really inspiring.
