Meet Usama of Gold Diamond & Co in Cumberland

Today we’d like to introduce you to Usama.

Usama, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My story is relatively new. I’ve opened up my showroom and been going at it since February 2019. It all started through my mom. She was tired of us having and doing nothing and wanted to set up a chance for us to make something for ourselves with the help of my uncles. Without my mom’s effort and determination, we would not be where we are one year later. We’re seeing some of the results of both of our efforts today, but there was a long two-year process to even getting the lease to get the showroom, and getting the money to make it the way it is, and getting the inventory we have, but you know, we keep going forward.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
As new business owners, there was and continues to be lots of struggles daily. Immediately, it was trying to establish ourselves in Atlanta, where there is a lot of competition in the jewelry industry. Every single day we have a target goal on what to hit for sales, and it was definitely a struggle hitting it sometimes, but things are better now and we are establishing ourselves as one of the best in business for sure. There’s a lot of other struggles, but I can’t go into detail on those because we are working to improve in those areas.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Gold Diamond & Co – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
So my part in Gold Diamond & Co is that I am the face of the brand. I manage all of our higher-end sales (watches, custom work, etc.), and handle all custom work from design to finish. Everyone knows me as the Customs Guy because, that’s what I like to drive my focus into, we have a great group of team members and associates who can handle sales, accounting, inventory management, and other stuff but nobody could really stand up to have the attention on them and be the one to handle work that continues around the clock 24-hours.

If I had to pick one thing I was proud of for Gold Diamond & Co, it would definitely have to be the speed that we are growing at, because we did not come into business to just have something for ourselves. We came into business to become industry leaders and I believe we are doing very well to establishing ourselves as that. I think what sets us apart from the competition is that everyone has grown comfortable, but for me personally, if I’m not the best at what I do, I can’t be comfortable, so I put more focus, and detail into my pieces than any other jeweler I know.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Can’t say much, just gotta keep going up and getting bigger. We’ve got a few major pieces in the works with some major Hip-Hop artists, but just waiting for those to lock in completely so we can reach a new height.
