Meet Kendrick Scar of Scar Books

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kendrick Scar.

Kendrick, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Born in Kissimmee, FL. Since a young teen, I’ve always had a passion for writing since I was in middle school. I started what came to be ‘Counting Daze’ back in the summer of my 8th grade which was then lost as time passed. I found the same book and decided to continue the story when I came back home for a semester during my time at FAMU. Now only 21 years old and a FAMU Alum, I am a self-published author currently working on the next segment to the series. In between writing both books. I discovered a poetry book I wrote during my four years in Tallahassee, timelining my experiences and rollercoasters I endured while in school.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’m an introvert at heart, so my communication skills were often overlooking or never heard at all growing up. Which is why I started writing in the first place. I’ve had many trials and tribulations in the past two years alone. After finishing ‘Counting Daze’ in May 2019, I lost my father that following September. I left Tallahassee for a semester and went back home to care for the family all while juggling life full time as a scholar and employee. Life isn’t easy, but knowing I have an outlet for all of these challenges, it not only encourages me but inspires me to keep going. I’m not doing this solely for me.

Scar Books – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Scar Books was the title given to the line of books I published thus far, the Drury Hill Trilogy and poetry book are what’s been planned so far. “Counting Daze” is a dystopian thriller filled with suspense and psychological perspectives of another society. In the small city of Drury Hill, a group of friends in their senior year is forced to put their lives on hold after the memory of the city is completely wiped out. The series inspiration running on everyday life and social controversies. It’s always interesting to see how your mind can play a story. It has no boundaries. My second addition to Scar Books is my poetry book named “A Book I’ll Never Write” which is a collection of poems I’ve wrote, written directly from my notebook.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from childhood would be nights with my grandmother (Annalydia Ruiz) watching scary movies. She is a big impact in my life. She nurtured and cared for me in moments I didn’t love myself. Also was the time my family and I went to a cabin up in Blue Ridge. That was our first cabin trip, we had no idea what to do. So explored the trails and forest. To this day, I travel to different state parks to explore and write. It’s usually how I gather inspiration.
