Meet Ebony Hardy of Healing NOT Hurting in Detroit

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ebony Hardy.

Ebony, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
2019 was a gift and a curse. Life dished out just about anything you can imagine. I was broken, hurt, and angry. I had lost my way, and my faith was nonexistent. My confidence was gone and so was my self-worth. I stayed in a toxic relationship far too long, I was depressed, I had given up on my goals, my credit was trashed. The girl who once had it all together had completely lost it. My life spiraled out of control. My turning point was when I found myself behind bars for 24 hours. The scariest moment of my life turned out to be a big blessing in my life. I had time to reflect. I knew something had to change. I knew I had work to do, my children were counting on me to win. Many things life had thrown my way were out of my control, but there were also things I brought upon myself. Either way, I knew it was time to HEAL! I had major work to do.

There was a greater purpose for my life. I had to dig deep. I had to work through those uncomfortable things we try to bury. I had to not only heal emotionally, I had to become whole. I had to heal spiritually, mentally and intellectually and that’s exactly what I did. I forgave myself and others, I learned to love myself, realized my self worth, regained confidence, I’m on fire for God again, my faith is like it’s never been before. I’m focused on my goals, and I’ve fixed my credit (my score has gone up over 100 points since I made the decision to do the work!) In my healing I realized I wasn’t the only person hurting. Nor was I the only person who made a few bad choices in life. There’s a never-ending cycle of hurt people hurting other people. As well as broken adults raising broken children, we need to put an end to the cycles. We need to hold ourselves accountable, and right our wrongs. Many people want to heal and become better versions of self, but they often don’t know where to begin. It was in this moment God gave me the vision for “Healing NOT Hurting.” I wrote the Healing NOT Hurting workbook to guide people to become the best version of themselves. It’s filled with journal prompts, affirmations, thought provoking activities and quotes. If I can heal so can others! Holistic wellness is the goal! Wellness is indeed the new luxury!

Has it been a smooth road?
I think I would say the biggest challenge is getting people to realize just how important holistic wellness is. We’ve been conditioned for years to not focus on our wellbeing. When we should’ve been taught that our wellbeing should be our first priority, we cannot live the lives we were created to live when we’re not whole.

Please tell us about Healing NOT Hurting.
Healing NOT Hurting is a brand that focuses on emphasizing and supporting holistic wellbeing. There’s such a stigma when it comes to wellbeing, especially in the black community that we need to end. Healing NOT Hurting believes “Wellness is the new luxury.”

The 31 Day Challenge Workbook shares my journey and offers people the opportunity to reflect over a month-long period on their own healing journey. Whether it’s healing from broken relationships, struggles with family, or building your own self-esteem, people will see differences in their approach to holistic wellbeing. The workbook also includes other activities and journal prompts to help people on their journey towards wholeness.

Healing NOT Hurting also has other products, including shirts and jewelry. As you’re healing, you can wear your story as a constant reminder of how much you’ve grown, and use it as motivation to continue on your healing journey. My goal is for everyone to begin their journey of being whole mentally, spiritually, emotionally, and intellectually. We have to end the cycle! I want healing to become the new norm. We don’t have to live in pain. We don’t have to continue the same cycles from generation to generation. We don’t have to live broken, it’s okay to do the work!

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
In 5-10 years, I believe there will definitely be a shift. As holistic wellness becomes a conversation, we’re no longer afraid to have, and more resources are put in place, I believe more and more people will begin to do the work.
