Today we’d like to introduce you to Tommy Martin Jr.
Tommy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
At 14, as a freshman at Ferndale High, I started making beats for my friends that created a rap group called “Blank Music Group.” We started this group to showcase our talents, have fun making music with our free time, and to show how we can make all different types of songs. Our music started to gradually gain attention throughout our high school careers and eventually came to an end when we all went to college. That led to me continuing to make beats and selling them to provide for myself while at college. One of the main reasons that I got to college was because I won the Gates Millennium Scholarship. During college and majoring in engineering, I felt like my passion was driven towards music. Therefore, I consistently was dropping beat tapes on all music streaming sites trying to gain a bigger fan base. After gaining a worldwide known name as “Thomasmbeats” with listeners in over 50+ countries & 2M plays on Soundcloud, I decided to make a beat store that I post three beats weekly on Beatstars (https://www.beatstars.com/thomasmbeats/feed). I am trying to make a living off my passion and utilizing my producing, engineering, and rapping to do that.
Has it been a smooth road?
The hardest part is feeling as if I was getting stuck at times and needing a boost of energy and motivation to continue my strive for greatness. I needed a push at tough times when I was going through some things. I really just wanted to spread my name around the world so people can feel my passion in music and vibe with me.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I sell beats currently through Beatstars and on my Instagram (@thomasmbeats). I have a website coming soon, so follow me on IG for updates. With my beats, I specialize in hype trap, R&B, soul, and old school sample type beats. I also am a producer that can make any type of beat for any type of artist. It could literally be any genre of music and I’ll find a way to make it fire. I can also make a beat out of any old song that someone sends me and make a fire sample type beat. I am gradually trying to have consistent artists buy beats from me to spread my passion around the world and gain pure musician connections with the artists. Everything that I specialize in, such as my sample beats, really sets me apart from the rest of the world.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Definitely, Atlanta is the place of the greatest music connection. Mostly everyone in Atlanta shows love to people if they’re music is good. It could be some of the most known artists all the way to people who started rapping yesterday that will show your music love. I definitely would recommend new artists and producers to start a fan base in Atlanta because of love.
