Today we’d like to introduce you to Destini Blunt.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have always wanted to be in the entertainment industry for a long as I can remember. It has always been told to me that I was born to be in movies and on the tv screen. Once I was old enough to make that decision for myself, I began to research my craft. I turned 18 and less than a week later, I submitted to be part of background on the tv show STAR. From that moment of being on set for 12+ hours, I knew that is where I wanted to be for as long as I could. With being on several different sets, I met a wide range of wonderful people. Who opened my eyes to the fact that I needed to do more than just background work. Being the youngest face on set came with a lot of encouraging words from those who were much older than me but were trying to get started just like me. After a while of networking and being apart of the background, I finally felt ready to take the next step in becoming the next big thing in the entertainment industry. So I thought.. right as I was preparing to focus more on my craft, God opened a door I never saw coming. He showed me that the opportunities are endless, and I started my own business. I took a leap of faith and I left my 9 to 5 and I’m focussing on building my empire. My business has been up and running for about two months now and trusting God has brought more success than I could’ve imagined. Although my passion is to be an actress/model. I trust God’s plan and his timing.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Starting a business is never easy. Nothing in life that you work for is easy. To leave my job that provided me with consistent pay to start my own business was probably the easiest part of my journey. I had peace knowing that God would provide me with what I needed to build my empire and be ok. In the beginning of starting my business, I struggled to find vendors I could trust. I also missed out on a lot of great inventory due to COVID-19 and the delays with shipments. Although the situation at hand can be very discouraging, I still managed to come out on top. For every piece of inventory I lost, another took its place.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the SheekLux story. Tell us more about the business.
The name SheekLux came from the inspiration of both luxury and cute. We offer a wide range of merchandise from sleepwear to bonnets and accessories to match. When I first got started, I had only the intention of offering sleepwear and bonnets. Since then, I have added custom T-shirts. My T-shirts are more than just a shirt. They’re shirts with a message. They speak on the current situations at hand and promote both positive and uplifting messages as well as TRUTHFUL messages. I am most proud of my decision to add these t-shirts to my brand.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t believe in luck. I believe in blessings. Both good or bad I do believe the things that have happened within my business are blessings in disguise. As well as in my life. I know that when the timing is right, I will pursue my passion to become an actress/model. And that everything and everyone who should be apart of that journey will be put in my life when its time.
